Leeds United: Is fullback a priority signing?
Transcript
00:00 You mentioned there that a replacement could well be needed. We are in the final stages
00:05 of the transfer window, only a couple of weeks left of January. Is there therefore a full
00:10 backer priority in these couple of weeks?
00:13 Yes, I think it has to be. Daniel Farker said post-match, I think after the Cardiff game,
00:17 there are a couple of areas where they're a little bit light, but he was very wise to
00:20 the fact that the January market is a tricky one to deal with. Managers always say that
00:25 and that is the case really. I think it's one of these things that will probably just
00:28 go right to the end of the window in terms of who they're going to get in. You would
00:32 suspect obviously there's loan spaces in the squad, so you would suspect if there is anybody
00:35 to come in, it will probably be a loan from a Premier League side. To me, it would just
00:39 make perfect sense to get somebody in, a full back who can play both left-back and right-back
00:43 and if you can get two in, then fantastic. But then again, they're not just going to
00:47 go willy-nilly and bring anybody in and obviously there's no point in bringing people in who
00:49 aren't actually going to strengthen the squad. Obviously, the Jed Spence situation was complex
00:55 obviously with what happened there. That was obviously followed by Luke Ayling departing.
00:59 They have lost two full backs, that's the nuts and bolts of it. If you've lost two full
01:03 backs, then obviously you would think probably try and get two full backs in. That seems
01:08 like the obvious area really. Always been talk about a number 10 at Leeds, getting a
01:12 number 10 option in, but I mean, Routier is now dropping back into that position and looks
01:15 pretty well suited by that position. Maybe they're all right there, centre-back possibly.
01:20 But I think full backs is the obvious one, along with obviously Daniel Keating, what
01:25 they've got. I mean, that is just as key, if not more so. I mean, obviously you have
01:28 the fantastic news about Archie Gray signing his new deal, which is brilliant. But I mean,
01:32 obviously people like Somerville are obviously going to be looked at. It would be interesting
01:35 to see what happens with Willy Nonto. He's an obvious one really, purely because he's
01:38 not obviously getting probably the game time that he wants. I don't think there's any signs
01:41 of him being unhappy or anything like that, but it's natural that he'll want to be playing
01:45 games and he is a big talent. So, I'm sure people will look at him as well. So, I think
01:48 it will go right to the end, yeah. But basically my message would be obviously try and hold
01:51 on to what you've got and obviously get at least one full back option and I think that
01:54 would make sense for everybody really.
