Liverpool and Wirral woke up on Tuesday morning to a blanket of snow. It may look nice but there's been a yellow weather warning from the met office and major travel disruption on the roads. It's also affected the public transport network and more than 40 schools have been closed due to the weather.

00:00 Waking up to a blanket of snow can seem quite magical.
00:05 And lots of Liverpool certainly looked beautiful on Tuesday morning.
00:09 However, as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning,
00:13 it's a reminder we all need to take care when going out and about.
00:17 Liverpool Council sent seven vehicles out to treat major routes
00:22 covering approximately 600 kilometres.
00:26 Liverpool City Council's gritters went on two spreading runs at 11pm Monday night
00:31 as well as 4am Tuesday morning across the major roads on the city's network.
00:37 But traffic has remained slow. Drivers have been asked to drive carefully nonetheless.
00:42 It has also been affecting bin collections as the refuse vehicles have been finding conditions
00:47 difficult to conduct collection safety.
00:50 The Council has been advising us to put our bins out as usual
00:54 and rubbish will be collected when it is safe to do so.
00:57 The Council's street scene staff were also deployed on targeted snow clearance
01:02 in the city centre around schools, hospitals, transport hubs and shopping areas.
01:08 The Mersey Ferry commuter service was suspended due to low water Tuesday morning
01:13 with a bus replacement in operation.
01:15 Due to the road conditions caused by snow, the entrance approach flyover
01:19 to the Birkenhead toll plaza for the Queensway tunnel was closed.
01:23 The tunnel remained open but motorists had to use Conway Street or the A41 approach roads.
01:29 Bus services on both Arriva and Stagecoach were subject to delays and route changes.
01:34 Despite the cold snap, Liverpool John Lennon Airport remained fully open and operational.
01:40 Snowy, wintry weather conditions can cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous.
01:45 Make sure to plan your route to check for delays and road closures.
01:49 Take more time to prepare and check your car before setting off,
01:53 including your windscreen wipers, tyres and screen wash.
01:56 If you are going out in your car during this kind of weather,
01:59 accelerate gently, use low revs and change to higher gears as quickly as possible.
02:05 Maintain a safe and steady speed, keep your distance from other vehicles
02:10 and use a low gear to go downhill and try to avoid braking unless necessary.
02:16 If you do find your car skidding, don't take your hands off the wheel or slam on the brakes.
02:22 If you're out and about on foot, there is a chance of injury from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
02:29 If you have to leave the house, then plan to leave earlier than normal so you're not rushing
02:35 and prepare for journeys by wearing footwear with a good grip.
02:38 Try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery.
02:43 Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
02:49 Overnight temperatures will dip below freezing as the UK is now in the grip of a cold plunge of Arctic air.
02:55 Some people are at higher risk of becoming seriously unwell because of exposure to cold.
03:01 So look after yourselves and others.
