00:17 A popular restaurant and pub in Manchester is serving up a selection of delicious pies for
00:22 a bargain as part of its annual pie festival. The Blackfriar in Salford is celebrating the
00:28 favourite British dish for as little as £10 until the end of February this year.
00:33 The restored English pub serves gourmet mains, cocktails and desserts in a historic setting
00:38 and this year marks its third annual pie festival. The pies on offer in January and February include
00:44 creamy chicken and pancetta, minced aged beef and root vegetable, classic fish pie and a cheese
00:50 option for vegetarians. There is also a host of daily specials handcrafted by head chef Ben
00:56 Chaplin. We were lucky enough to head down to the Blackfriar to try the delicious pies out for
01:01 ourselves. "This is our third year doing the pie festival so we're doing it again because we did
01:06 such great success last year, people love it, we're really really busy and it gives them the
01:13 chance to be able to come and have one of our pies that are on our ala carte menu for a massively
01:18 reduced price. We have our staple pies, we've got a chicken pie, a minced beef pie and a cheese pie
01:22 which are on all the time and a fish pie so they're always available for £10 and then we do
01:28 specials as well so we've got lamb hot pot, we've got a hunter's chicken, there's a chicken cordon
01:34 bleu, there's a lobster pie as well which we're going to do which is a bit bougie so that's coming
01:39 soon. Some of us are stuck in at home and it's great to get out and go and meet friends and
01:43 talk about stuff and if you could do that over a relatively cheap lunch which is still high quality
01:50 then all the better. So this January we've got a chicken, bacon and confit garlic pie
01:56 in a white wine cream sauce, there's a fish pie with a mash topping. Traditionally you get fish
02:02 pie which is in a dish with mash on top as is in a shortcrust pastry. Then we've got a minced beef
02:08 pie so minced beef and root vegetable through a nice rich gravy and then there's a cheese and
02:13 potato pie so we've got one for veggies as well so we've got a veggie, fish and then some meat
02:18 options. Out of all the pies I sampled my favourites were the chicken and fish pies and each dish had
02:23 mash, greens or chips to accompany it. For an affordable price you can try delicious gourmet
02:29 pies in a central location in Manchester all the way up until the end of February. The chicken is
02:34 definitely my favourite. Would you say that was the best seller? Yes 100% of the best seller. I made 125
02:40 yesterday and I've got to make another 60 today.
