Some of the same parts of the central U.S. slammed by snow at the start of this week will be getting hit again as the week comes to an end.
Transcript
00:00 Coming up Thursday night into the weekend, an additional storm is coming and hitting a lot of the same places that are getting hit as we speak.
00:08 It's been a dangerous and treacherous day across the plains in Midwest.
00:12 Snow and blizzard conditions are causing a mess on the roads in Iowa as well as Nebraska.
00:17 And this winter storm is not done yet.
00:19 And as we just mentioned with Michelle, another storm is coming for some of these same areas later this week.
00:25 I know that portions of I-80, portions of I-70 were closed for business yesterday into today.
00:32 And as we take a look at what has happened here as far as the snowfall reports,
00:37 yeah, portions of Nebraska got more than a foot of snow.
00:40 South Dakota, Iowa, we got some impressive totals in there as well.
00:44 Now as far as the current radar picture, boy, it's been a snowy evening across the Great Lakes here from Chicago up to Green Bay.
00:51 I know at one point today Chicago's O'Hare Airport did have a ground stop, but I believe they're back running now.
00:57 But it's just been some nasty weather out there, whether you're traveling by car or hitting the airports.
01:01 If you look at the current winter weather situation as far as the advisories, hey, it's still dangerous to travel out there anywhere in the blue.
01:08 The winter storm warning is in the dark blue.
01:10 You've also got winter weather advisories across lower Michigan.
01:13 The wind is blowing. The snow is falling.
01:16 And as this storm advances into this Tuesday night, we know we've got the flooding concerns and the severe weather across the eastern Carolinas down into Florida
01:24 and also the snow that continues to fly from the Great Lakes to the Midwest.
01:28 Now the snowfall forecasts we're expecting by the time the sun comes out tomorrow morning,
01:32 we will have seen a large swath of 6 to 12 inches of snow here from areas north of Chicago into eastern Nebraska.
01:39 So a pretty impressive snowstorm here, especially for a winter that hasn't been too snowy so far.
01:44 The wind has also been a big problem.
01:46 We've been showing you some of the power outage maps.
01:48 Well, take a look at it.
01:49 The last 24 hours, peak wind gusts.
01:51 Omaha had a gust of 45, Indianapolis 30.
01:55 You're also looking at the current wind direction as well.
01:57 You see where the center of that low is.
01:59 It's pretty much right over Chicago.
02:00 So wind advisories and even some high wind warnings are still in place here across portions of the eastern Great Lakes.
02:06 Remember these high wind warnings, the dark purple, that's gusts over 50 miles an hour.
02:10 That's coastal areas of the east coast and also the eastern Great Lakes.
02:14 It's cold behind this storm.
02:16 Low of 4 tonight in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
02:18 Snow tonight in Chicago, down just below freezing.
02:22 And then Wednesday we'll see another little bit of snow move in across the upper Midwest.
02:26 But a big cold, a big cool down is coming here, folks, as we head through the week.
