Wet and snowy weekend on tap for the West Coast

A storm arriving from the Pacific Ocean will spread rain and mountain snow across Washington, Oregon and California throughout the upcoming weekend.

00:00 Here comes more rain into Seattle today,

00:02 tomorrow and Saturday.

00:03 Rain on tap temperatures

00:04 cooling day by day as well.

00:06 We're in the mid 40s by the time

00:08 we get to Saturday afternoon,

00:10 but the big story here is not just that.

00:12 It's rainy.

00:13 We have a big storm coming

00:15 into the Western US.

00:16 It's going to be the same storm

00:18 that next week wreaks havoc

00:19 across the middle of the country

00:21 and the eastern seaboard,

00:22 but first it has to get to the great PNW.

00:25 It's this big swirl here out

00:27 by the Aleutian Islands.

00:28 It's helping to send the energy ashore,

00:30 and that's what's going to cause

00:32 kind of a nasty start to the weekend

00:34 here across the West Coast.

00:36 This is what we're looking at here.

00:37 Turning colder and travel disruptions

00:39 are really the two big impacts,

00:41 but I will say this.

00:42 I think you'll especially have problems

00:43 into the northern Cascades as we look

00:45 back up toward, let's say,

00:46 White Pass in Washington.

00:47 I think the snow is going to get down

00:49 to pass level and it is going to be

00:50 concerning in terms of folks who are

00:52 attempting to drive through

00:53 the passes this weekend.

00:54 Make sure you're heating any local

00:56 advisories as you head that way.

00:57 Even out toward the northern Rockies.

00:59 Once you're getting up into the higher

01:01 elevations of the bitter roots in the

01:02 Lewis Range into Montana and Idaho,

01:04 we could see some pretty hefty snowfall

01:05 well over a foot in those high

01:07 elevations and even back toward the

01:09 Sierra some extra snow as well.

01:10 Not quite as robust as the Cascades,

01:12 but still something to watch for.

01:14 Saturday is the biggest day when

01:15 it comes to that winter weather

01:17 across the Pacific Northwest itself.

01:19 You can see the rain back toward I-5

01:20 as you get a little lower in elevation.

01:22 It's not quite as cold,

01:23 at least not cold enough to support

01:25 snow back out towards Seattle,

01:26 Tacoma, even outdoors.

01:27 Let's say Medford and Eugene.

01:29 But once you get to the mountains,

01:30 that's when things change.

01:31 Things change pretty quickly.

01:33 Overall mountains.

01:34 Once we get into the Yakima Valley,

01:35 bit of a mushy icy mix with whatever

01:37 moisture is left over before again

01:39 and we climb in elevation.

01:40 We're back into the snow in the

01:42 mountains of Idaho and Montana.

01:44 In terms of your next seven days in Seattle,

01:45 oh, unfortunately we are stuck in a

01:48 stormy trend hard to find sunshine.

01:50 Over the next week,

01:51 so just stick it out and have that

01:53 umbrella handy as the rain is in the

01:55 forecast at least through Wednesday.
