00:00 You're watching The Source on CNN Philippines. I'm Menchie Makapagal.
00:08 From Marga to classic Nanay lines to a Voltisfied parody and a love series between a sales lady and a security guard.
00:19 Name it. And this TikTok influencer and content creator definitely has his unique and funny take on it.
00:26 But as the content creator community grows, how do you actually manage to continue creating engaging content?
00:34 Our source today, TikTok influencer and content creator, Christian Antolin.
00:40 Christian, welcome to the program.
00:42 Thank you so much, Ms. Menchie. Happy New Year!
00:45 Happy New Year to you.
00:47 Thank you so much. This is my first New Year.
00:50 Yes.
00:51 For 2024, right?
00:53 So thank you for your time. Let's start by talking about this.
00:58 How did you get into content creation?
01:01 Actually, I think it's very common in the Philippines, not just in the Philippines, but worldwide.
01:09 I started with the pandemic, like other creators.
01:14 And, of course, out of boredom, because the first week, I was like, "I'm not doing anything."
01:23 I want to be productive every day as much as possible.
01:26 So when I started browsing social media platforms, that's when I realized, that's when I thought, "Why don't I just create content?"
01:35 Okay.
01:36 So I can ease my boredom, so I can do something, just be productive.
01:42 What was your background before you got into content creation?
01:45 It's funny because I'm a freelancer, but I'm more into the architectural field.
01:52 Engineering.
01:53 Engineering?
01:54 Yes.
01:55 And now you're in content creation.
01:57 Yes. My life has changed so much.
02:00 From working on making plans to multimedia.
02:06 So are you doing this full-time now, content creation?
02:09 Yes, full-time. I don't have any work to do anymore.
02:13 Well, over the years, you have made several characters that really stood out among netizens.
02:21 We start with Marga.
02:23 Oh my God.
02:24 Guys, come on in.
02:26 I'm sorry, the house is a bit messy.
02:30 [dramatic music]
02:40 It's messy, right? Is this messy?
02:43 Is our house a junk shop?
02:46 Guys, come on in.
02:48 I'm sorry, the house is a bit messy.
02:52 How did you come up with the idea of Marga?
02:56 Marga is a character from a TV show before.
03:02 Okay.
03:03 And Marga's personality is very grumpy.
03:07 And I feel that one of the things that people like, netizens, is that they like people who are brave and brave.
03:18 It's more engaging when people have an attitude.
03:23 It's more natural for us Filipinos.
03:27 We like to watch gossip, fights, and chaos.
03:32 So Marga's character is perfect for me to make my own version.
03:38 So I can introduce her to people.
03:41 Because she's my signature character.
03:45 And they liked it. So okay, let's continue.
03:50 Interesting. So also among your viral hits is a parody of common lines of mothers.
03:57 So let's watch this.
03:59 [dramatic music]
04:00 This is how she looks when she's silent.
04:02 [dramatic music]
04:05 Answer me!
04:07 Are you answering me?
04:09 [dramatic music]
04:12 I'm going to change my voice.
04:14 [dramatic music]
04:16 You're so annoying!
04:19 [dramatic music]
04:20 We were like that back then.
04:22 [dramatic music]
04:25 [audience laughing]
04:27 You know, now that I've become a mom,
04:29 the first line that you said, "Use your eyes, not your mouth."
04:35 I find myself saying that also.
04:37 So is this from your experience?
04:40 I'm not a mother yet.
04:43 But I have a mother.
04:45 That's what she's saying.
04:47 I think I'm happy because people liked it.
04:52 I feel like mothers are geezy.
04:55 They're saying the same things.
04:58 So I was surprised when they liked it.
05:00 I was really impressed by my mom.
05:03 She's really good at saying things.
05:06 So I said, she really became my inspiration.
05:09 She's really that.
05:10 All the things she says,
05:12 even the way I say it,
05:14 I deliver the lines.
05:15 I was really happy because
05:18 they saw their mother's personality in that content.
05:22 What did your family say when they watched that particular clip?
05:25 My mom didn't say anything because she's guilty.
05:28 She's guilty.
05:29 She's that.
05:30 So one of your new content is the love story of a sales lady and a security guard.
05:37 That's what suits you.
05:41 What's your lunch break?
05:42 I'll be there at 1.30.
05:44 There's a lot of people.
05:46 What do you know?
05:47 I don't have a bag.
05:48 I'll just eat there at the cafeteria.
05:50 Who will you eat with?
05:52 Sarah won't eat with us.
05:54 Mark can't either.
05:55 Do you want to eat with us?
05:57 What do you mean by us?
05:58 We don't have anyone.
06:00 You're getting too low.
06:03 I said we'll eat together because you don't have anyone to eat with.
06:06 Why are you going to eat with me?
06:08 We'll have a chit-chat later.
06:10 Why?
06:11 What are you doing?
06:13 I'm just eating with you.
06:14 Come here.
06:15 We'll have a chat later.
06:17 I have an assistant.
06:19 Hi, ma'am.
06:21 I'm just walking around.
06:23 Come here.
06:24 I'm far away.
06:26 I'm right here.
06:28 Aren't you the security guard?
06:30 So what?
06:31 Of course, I'll be watching you.
06:33 Something bad might happen to you.
06:35 You're so stupid.
06:36 What will happen to me?
06:37 How do you conceptualize these storylines?
06:41 Because their characters are so complete.
06:46 When I'm conceptualizing, it's not just based on my personal experience.
06:53 I also look at the POV of other people.
06:58 For example, I wasn't a security guard before.
07:00 I wasn't a sales lady.
07:02 So I think when you go out and look around,
07:07 everything is possible to be content.
07:10 And I used security guard and sales lady as an example.
07:13 Because based on my experience,
07:15 I've seen security guards and sales ladies and other girls who work
07:21 and they make the security guards confused.
07:24 And they have conversations that are a bit...
07:27 They're a bit...
07:28 So I thought, "Oh, this can be a content."
07:30 And I'm not the only one who sees that.
07:34 So that's the initial concept.
07:39 So you're very observant of the people around you.
07:44 Not just people, but things and situations.
07:48 Small things.
07:49 I see possible contents.
07:53 Oh, interesting.
07:54 Okay.
07:55 Lastly, you also join in on trending issues, right?
07:58 You have a KathNiel version of the video.
08:02 Let's watch this.
08:03 Wait, you forgot your monitor.
08:06 Wait.
08:07 This is from me.
08:08 This is for you.
08:09 For me?
08:12 Yes.
08:13 This will help you move on.
08:16 Move on from what?
08:20 From the issues lately.
08:23 Like the 125 million and 11 days in the confidential fund.
08:28 And Michelle didn't make it in the top 5.
08:32 And the issue of the KathNiel separation.
08:36 Let's move on.
08:37 Use this.
08:39 No.
08:40 Huh?
08:41 We're not moving on?
08:43 Why?
08:44 What do you know about my feelings?
08:48 Actually, I don't know.
08:51 I just asked Celine because you're closer.
08:54 I don't know what I'm going to give you.
08:57 She said, I'm going to give you this because she knows you better.
09:02 Even Celine?
09:03 Even Celine, I'm with everyone, I know everything.
09:08 You don't know my decisions.
09:10 I don't know anything, Ellie.
09:11 I just asked Celine what I'm going to give you.
09:13 Because I don't know what I'm going to give you.
09:15 Because it's hard to give you.
09:17 Only Celine knows you here.
09:20 I'm not Celine.
09:22 I can't be her.
09:24 That's right.
09:26 You're not Celine.
09:28 And you will never be Celine.
09:30 Celine is not a medicine and should not be used for any kind of illness.
09:34 Even if you ask Celine.
09:36 This is the suggestion I gave you.
09:38 I just asked her, Ellie.
09:40 Why are you angry?
09:42 Celine, where are you?
09:46 Your friend is angry with me.
09:48 She's here.
09:49 So obviously, you're the on-cam talent.
09:51 Yes.
09:52 But who is the editor and writer?
09:54 Is it still you?
09:55 It's me.
09:56 All of it?
09:57 Yes, all of it.
09:58 I'm really a one-man show.
09:59 And the shooting?
10:00 Yes, it's all me.
10:02 Wow.
10:04 How long does it take you to...
10:07 It's long.
10:11 If it's that kind of content, it's very boring and laborious.
10:17 But I don't see myself getting tired or complaining.
10:24 Because I think I'm living my passion.
10:26 I'm living my dream.
10:28 Because this is one of my dreams.
10:30 To make parodies of skits.
10:33 We'll talk more about your passions right after taking this short break.
10:38 This is The Source on CNN Philippines.
10:40 Please stay tuned.
10:41 [Music]
10:46 I cooked all of these for you, Ate.
10:48 And your favorite.
10:49 Mama, thank you very much.
10:52 You know that I love chicken nuggets.
10:54 Me too, Mama.
10:56 She's so annoying.
10:57 I'm like a small bird.
10:59 But anyways, I love you so much.
11:02 That's why I bought that ball for you.
11:04 Mama, because I'm so hungry.
11:06 Don't talk.
11:07 If you're hungry, eat.
11:08 Eat because I cooked all of these for you.
11:11 Thank you, Mama.
11:13 Thank you, Mama.
11:15 You're watching The Source on CNN Philippines.
11:19 I'm Menchie Macapagal.
11:20 And our source today, TikTok influencer and content creator, Christian Antolin.
11:26 So Christian, we just saw some of your creations online.
11:32 How do you gauge if people like it?
11:36 Is it always based on views?
11:38 Because your last video had 6 million views.
11:42 Wow.
11:43 6 million views.
11:44 Your mom's video had 10 million views.
11:45 And your Marga video had 3 million views.
11:47 So how do you gauge if something is "patok"?
11:50 In every social media platform, there's an analytics.
11:54 You can see if your engagement is good or if the performance of your content is good.
12:01 But if you're a normal netizen and not a content creator,
12:06 if you look at the post, and you see a lot of comments, views, and shares,
12:13 it means that your engagement is good.
12:16 Even if you're a normal person, you can see that your engagement is good.
12:20 If you see a lot of comments and shares outside of the post,
12:25 it means that your engagement is good.
12:27 And you said this is like your dream come true for you, right?
12:30 So on a personal note, how has content creation changed your life?
12:35 Like what I said earlier, I'm in the architectural engineering field.
12:41 And my life was so twisted when I got to know content creators.
12:47 And a lot happened.
12:49 In fairness, I was able to provide for my family.
12:52 I survived the pandemic.
12:54 Because of that, I got a job, opportunities,
12:57 I got to know big brands, and so on.
13:00 And that's when my life was so twisted in creating content.
13:06 But what are your tips for those who are aspiring to be content creators as well?
13:13 Be true to yourself, or do what you want to do.
13:20 Because there are so many kinds of content creators, not just in making skits.
13:24 There are those who educate, there are doctors,
13:29 there are teachers, there are people from different fields.
13:35 I think social media is good because you can share whatever you have outside of social media,
13:43 regardless of what your profession is.
13:46 Like you, Ms. Menchu, you can be a news anchor,
13:50 you can also be a content creator,
13:52 you can share news or your opinions on each news.
13:56 It's like that.
13:57 Yes.
13:58 Start with TikTok, Ms. Menchu.
14:01 Okay, I'll think about it. I'll get some tips from you.
14:04 All right, thank you very much, Christian.
14:07 And congratulations.
14:08 Thank you so much. And happy new year again.
14:11 And happy new year once again.
14:12 And thank you for joining us here on The Source.
14:14 Sitting in for Pinky Web, I'm Menchu Makapagal, you're watching CNN Philippines.
