00:00 In country Queensland, Santa looks a little different.
00:05 He has tattoos and drives a ute and is known around town as Nathan Brown.
00:10 Nathan, how are you?
00:13 Good morning bro.
00:15 By day he's a paramedic, answering Christmas letters in between shifts.
00:20 His personalised notes are written in glitter pen and come stamped from the North Pole.
00:25 I've seen kids that write in saying, "I want a car for my mum" or "I want presents for
00:31 all the kids around the world" and then I've got people writing in saying "I want a PlayStation
00:35 5" or "I want some new hoverboards".
00:39 The Santa Ruse is supported in his town of Kambuya with a population of 2,000 on Queensland's
00:45 Darling Downs.
00:46 All the adults are in on it, including staff at the local post office, who've set up a
00:51 letters to Santa mailbox.
00:53 These responses are returned through the regular mail service.
00:56 It's just turned into the most wonderful little, you can sound a little bit cheesy when you
01:01 talk about all the spirit and community and all that sort of thing, but just a little
01:05 thing like this shows that it's real.
01:07 It's an elaborate scheme, but one that's well worth it.
01:11 We see a lot of bad things with the ambulance and fireys and police and that sort of thing.
01:16 So sitting down and writing these letters back to kids, it sort of restores that faith
01:22 and humanity that there is some innocence and some good out there.
01:26 A reminder of the good in the world at the end of a tough shift.
