00:00 Yes, so tragically the ACT has recorded its fourth road fatality for the year. Shortly after 9 a.m. this morning
00:07 a head-on collision occurred on Pielio Avenue between Sherga Drive near Canberra Airport and
00:13 Oaks Estate Road
00:15 As a result of that accident a 30 year old man from Columbia
00:19 deceased
00:22 Was treated at the scene by our emergency services, but he tragically passed away at the scene
00:29 there's a collision between a Holden Astra and a
00:33 Municipal Patrol four-wheel drive
00:35 The two occupants of the four-wheel drive were treated by ACT Ambulance and conveyed to ACT
00:44 Canberra Hospital, sorry and
00:47 with non-life-threatening injuries
00:49 So yeah, it's obviously a tragic time of the year
00:52 for this to occur, tragic at any point, especially at this time of the year
00:57 ACT Police would ask that anyone that was on or around Pielio Avenue
01:02 in the area of the accident who may have dash cam footage or
01:07 May have some information that's relevant to police. It's being investigated by the
01:12 ACT Major Collision Team
01:15 And if anyone can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
01:20 we'd greatly appreciate it.
01:21 Do you have any further details about the two people in the four-wheel drive, man and woman, ages, circumstances?
01:26 We know it was a male and a female
01:28 I don't have any other details at the moment. As I said, they've been treated with non-life-threatening injuries
01:34 How much do you think the weather will play a role in this?
01:36 Clearly it's going to be something that is looked at. I mean the road is obviously wet
01:42 but that's going to be part of the investigation from the Major Collision Team
01:46 What would be your message to people who are going to be out on our roads leading up to Christmas?
01:52 We've put this message out before. We just ask people to drive to the conditions of the road
01:59 If the roads are wet, then people just need to
02:03 take that little bit of extra care, even whatever the speed limit is, just drive to the conditions
02:09 And obviously the reasons behind this accident will become evident once the investigation gets underway
02:18 Obviously we can see for ourselves, but how would you describe the condition of the two vehicles?
02:22 There's significant damage obviously to both vehicles
02:25 and obviously the deceased vehicle especially
02:29 So, yes, just a tragic set of circumstances as well
02:34 Has the family been protected of the 30-year-old there?
02:38 Yeah, next to Ken have been notified
02:40 And the two people in the four-wheel drive, do you know if they're from Canberra or if they're from out of state?
02:47 Look, I don't have any details on them at the moment
02:50 minor. Sorry.
