00:00 For many, it marks the end of 13 years of schooling.
00:05 Students sat through more than three weeks of exams back in October on subjects ranging
00:10 from maths and English to food technology and drama.
00:14 The results of those exams, along with other assessments, are then calculated to give students
00:19 a final score, which is known as an ATAR.
00:22 Students were supposed to receive those final scores at 9am today, but the website did crash
00:27 for many of them, causing delays and disruptions.
00:30 Regardless, graduates here at Blakehurst High School say they're just glad that the stress
00:34 of year 12 is now over.
00:36 Here's some of what they had to say.
00:38 The website was actually crashing quite a bit, so I was learning a couple of times,
00:42 getting them to hotspot for me, and then it finally decided to load and I was very happy
00:46 with my marks, so yeah, very pleased with that.
00:49 It was quite difficult, but I'm glad that I have my support.
00:52 I have my amazing family, my amazing friends.
00:55 Really happy with my mark, I think it shows the work that I've put in throughout the years.
01:00 Helena is an ATAR the only way to gain entry to university?
01:06 It's certainly not, Carina.
01:07 There's lots of different ways to get into university in Australia.
01:10 That includes bridging courses, TAFE courses and other alternative pathways.
01:15 Many students also choose not to go to university at all, instead going directly into the workforce
01:19 or getting a qualification at TAFE.
01:22 Premier Chris Mins had some words of advice for students who might be feeling a little
01:26 bit disappointed by the results they received today.
01:28 Here's some of what he had to say.
01:31 When it comes to university entry, it does put a lot of pressure on the kids and I think
01:34 a big message out of today is that if you're a bit deflated, if you didn't get the mark
01:40 that you hoped for, trust me, I promise you, there are so many pathways to success and
01:46 particularly in a country like Australia, the sky's the limit.
01:51 Along with NSW and the ACT, students in Victoria and Tasmania have also already received their
01:58 Year 12 results.
01:59 For students in the rest of Australia, they can expect to receive their ATARs in the coming
02:04 days.
