Hundreds of workers in a Dandenong South industrial estate have been evacuated after fire ripped through a factory containing fire-lighting products. Crews took hours to bring the blaze under control and stop it spreading to neighbouring factories.

00:00A huge column of thick black smoke, a factory quickly engulfed in flames.

00:08We were walking on the factory inside and we were hearing a couple of loud noises,

00:13and we were not sure what's going to be happening inside.

00:16Within five minutes or so there were explosions everywhere,

00:19there were aerosol cans going off, black smoke and flames probably 25, 30 foot out the top.

00:25Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find the factory on Kimberley Road fully consumed by fire.

00:32We had some concerns for the factory immediately north.

00:34The crews in this sector behind us have worked incredibly hard to contain the fire.

00:38200 workers in factories on Kimberley and Mickle Street were evacuated from their workplaces.

00:44Some left equipment and vehicles as firefighters worked to control the blaze.

00:49The factory is a wholesaler for fire lighting products like matches. No one was injured.

00:54It was quite scary. We were just trying to get what we could out of there.

00:58Despite concerns about it spreading to neighbouring workplaces, including one with hydraulics,
