00:00 Well this is the situation currently in Port Douglas.
00:05 This is the top of the high tide the Bureau was warning about.
00:09 The ocean here yesterday was still relatively calm, not anymore.
00:13 You can really start to see the effects of Cyclone Jasper.
00:16 These waves have been surging up onto the boardwalks.
00:20 You can see all the debris around at the high tide mark.
00:25 Thankfully the waves are really only just lapping the dunes and not surging up across
00:30 the broad water and onto the road.
00:32 Now that was the fear.
00:34 The fear was if we spin around that the system would have, this high tide would have coincided
00:40 with when the system made landfall and that the water would rush across the road and into
00:44 the ground level of some of these hotels there.
00:47 Thankfully that hasn't happened.
00:49 But if you take a look at the trees you can see the wind has really picked up as well.
00:54 Go to the rain.
00:55 You've got palm fronds dropping everywhere.
00:57 By how slowly that system is moving I think the rain is here to stay.
01:02 According to the Bureau high tide tonight is forecast for just before 9pm.
01:08 That could be much closer to when the system makes landfall.
01:12 Thankfully tonight's high tide won't be quite as big as this one so fingers crossed we don't
01:17 see too much damage from flooding at least from the storm surge here in Port Douglas.
