There has been an increase in the number of sexual harassment complaints lodged by men through Social Support Centres (PSSS), says Aiman Athirah Sabu.

The Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister told the Dewan Negara that Tuesday (Dec 5) that her ministry received a total of 1,486 complaints of sexual harassment via PSSS throughout the 14 series of the KPWKM@Advocacy Anti-Sexual Harassment Roadshow.

According to Aiman Athirah, based on feedback, 97.6% of participants showed an increase in sexual harassment knowledge and understanding, adding that a number of advocacy programmes were held with private companies and non-governmental organisations to raise awareness of sexual harassment at their respective premises.

00:00 For your information, the Anti-Sexual Disturbance Act 2022 or Act 840 is a special act to deal with sexual harassment.
00:13 The strengthening of this act has been implemented in a series of acts since 28 March 2023,
00:19 which involves the elimination of sexual harassment as an element of awareness, education and understanding of sexual harassment to the community.
00:26 To ensure that sexual harassment is understood, the KPWKM has implemented the Anti-Sexual Disturbance Act at 14 states involving 19,423 participants from various layers of society.
00:42 The advocacy program aims to encourage awareness and increase awareness of sexual harassment so that the culture of normalizing sexual harassment can be eliminated.
00:53 From the assessment of the program's level of awareness and understanding, the KPWKM has also raised questions to the public attending the program.
01:04 Based on the feedback we received, 97.6% of participants showed an increase in awareness and understanding of sexual harassment.
01:14 At the same time, the KPWKM also received 1486 complaints related to sexual harassment by the local social support center, PSSS,
01:25 during the 14 days of the program held across the country.
01:29 Of the total, 411 cases, or 27.7% involved men.
01:39 The KPWKM has also held a press conference and submitted a notice of sexual harassment to representatives of the government, private and NGO sectors during the implementation of this program.
01:49 The press conference also helped to expand the implementation guidelines of the Anti-Sexual Disturbance Advocacy Program in accordance with Section 25 Act 840.
02:02 The KPWKM has also opened up more opportunities for strategic collaboration with government sectors such as the Public Works Department, Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Employment.
02:14 We have also held various activities and programs with NGOs and private sectors to implement the advocacy program to encourage awareness and increase awareness of sexual harassment on each premise.
02:29 As many as 54 advocacy programs have been implemented by various sectors, including the Workers' Union Congress, the Public Service of QPECS,
