00:00 Daniel Farker's Leeds United welcome in for Middlesbrough to
00:07 Ellen Road this Saturday. Middlesbrough currently sit 10th in the
00:11 championship but have made up several places after their slow start to the
00:15 season. Both sides won in midweek, Leeds defeating Swansea by three goals to one
00:21 with Borough dispatching of Preston North End 4-0. It is certainly a game in
00:27 which Leeds will have to be at their best to win with Borough boss Michael
00:31 Carrick making clear in his press conference that his side have been
00:35 playing well consistently in recent fixtures giving them full confidence
00:40 going into the weekend's encounter. For Leeds a win could see them go just four
00:46 points behind Ipswich in second and five behind Leicester at the top if results
00:51 go their way. Leicester have seen a dip in form lately, something which Daniel
00:56 Farker will no doubt have drilled into his players as motivation. A win for
01:01 Borough could see them leapfrog several teams and just creep into the playoffs
01:06 but that would require a goal difference swing as well as results going their way.
01:12 It promises to be a close game with both sides showing plenty of capability in
01:17 the championship as we head into the busy festive period. Leeds will want to
01:22 keep applying pressure to the top two but will be wary that a string of poor
01:27 results could see them looking over their shoulder at those sat just below
01:31 them in the playoffs. Opponents Middlesbrough will certainly be looking
01:35 upwards at teams such as Leeds knowing that anything is possible in the second
01:40 half of the season if they are able to stay within the mix as they navigate the
01:45 fixture congestion to come. Therefore Saturday's clash is doubly important in
01:50 setting both sides up as the Christmas football festival gets underway.
01:56 Bradford City do not have a game this weekend due to other sides playing in
02:00 the FA Cup second round fixtures. They have to wait until Tuesday when they
02:05 play in the EFL trophy although will have a spring in their step after
02:10 several good wins both home and away in recent weeks propelling them up the
02:15 League 2 table and for now at least away from any potential danger. Finally York
02:21 City are involved in the FA Cup. They take on Wigan Athletic at the LNER
02:25 community stadium under the lights hoping to reach the third round and come
02:30 up against a Premier League or Championship side. Their opponents Wigan
02:35 famously won the FA Cup in 2013 with a late Ben Watson header helping to defeat
02:40 Manchester City at Wembley. It will be a tough test for York but one which they
02:45 will be relishing especially given the financial benefits of reaching the third
02:50 round of the FA Cup. That is all for your Yorkshire football roundup this week
02:56 plenty to look forward to for Leeds and York with Bradford having a weekend off
03:01 from action.
