Everton’s latest contract situation amid renewals of big names

00:18Their future might have been a bit uncertain at Everton.

00:20Yeah, some good news is that Riscana Gay obviously pens a one-year extension

00:25with the option of another year.

00:27And I think every fan will agree that that was the right decision.

00:33Riscana Gay might be 35-36, but he was immense last season.

00:39He was playing like he was 25-26.

00:42He was Everton's best player for me.

00:44Rightly, he was awarded player of the year.

00:47And in a massive summer for Everton,

00:50keeping your nucleus of your team, your spine of your team,

00:54it's going to be important.

00:56Now they've done that.

00:58They've renewed the contract of Jarrett Bramfoyt,

01:01which is a real statement of intent from the Freakon group

01:05because Jarrett Bramfoyt will be one of the most coveted centre-backs

01:09in the Premier League, if not in Europe.

01:14He's got everything you'd want in the defender.

01:16He's left-footers as well.

01:17There's not many of them around.

01:19He's going to go right to the very top.

01:23And Everton have laid down the mark.

01:25I'm saying, right, we're not selling them this summer.

01:26We're building our team effectively around a player like Jarrett Bramfoyt.

01:31And who knows, whatever, and if they do well this season,

01:34what could come of that.

01:36But that is almost like a sign in itself

01:39because it's quelled all the early rumours

01:41and all the talks about maybe Tottenham coming in for them.

01:44But instead, I think Bramfoyt's probably been given a good contract,

01:50one that he deserves, one that represents his stature in the team.

01:54And I think the decision to tie down Michael Keane for another year is prudence.

02:02Look, Everton need four centre-backs.

02:04Bramfoyt will be the starter.

02:07James Tarkowski's working his way back from a serious hamstring injury

02:10at the end of last season.

02:13He's into the last year of his contract

02:15and he's been really reliable, James Tarkowski, for Everton.

02:20He didn't miss a Premier League game until that injury.

02:24He suffers in the back end of the campaign.

02:27But he is in his 30s.

02:29Everton may be going to have to manage him a little bit more carefully this season,

02:33given the severity of his hamstring issue.

02:35We've got Jake O'Brien, who can also play right back.

02:38So signing Michael Keane again for another year, it made sense.

02:43It meant Everton didn't have to go out and recruit in another position

02:47when they already need so many.

02:48And Seamus Coleman extending his contract another year,

02:55bringing Everton to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

02:59Maybe he might have retired in other circumstances,

03:03but David Moyes wanted to keep him.

03:06He wanted to keep his voice in the dressing room.

03:08And I think it'll be important for Everton to have him for another year.

03:12So, look, they all make sense who they've kept.
