00:00 You know, the cost of living is really impacted.
00:07 So yeah, I do really feel for families this year and hope that everyone can make the most
00:13 of it really and be as jolly as they can.
00:20 It is the most wonderful time of the year for some, but for others the festive period
00:25 comes with added worry about expenses and amid the rising cost of living, many people
00:32 have said they will be scaling back this festive season.
00:36 Let's chat to locals to find out more.
00:38 Yes and no.
00:39 Yes, in the sense that I'm being careful of money.
00:43 No in the sense that I've got grandchildren and I still want to buy them presents, etc,
00:48 etc, etc.
00:49 So I will do that, be more careful about what I spend and how I spend money, basically.
00:55 No, not particularly.
00:58 We've tried to be quite careful, so I think we'll still do what we want or like to do,
01:06 but just watching the pennies a little bit more, not being perhaps quite so extravagant.
01:12 Slightly, but not as much as I initially thought I would.
01:18 But yeah.
01:19 Cutting back with presents, yeah, so perhaps spending a bit less on presents.
01:25 I think it might be for the very poor, yes, because we're going through this kind of crisis
01:31 economically and I think it must be quite difficult for a number of people, especially
01:36 on fixed incomes.
01:37 I've always liked to go to the Christmas market and in fact we went the other day, it was
01:42 really nice.
01:43 And going to the theatre actually, going to the pantomime and doing things like that,
01:48 again, you know, nice traditional things.
01:50 So yeah.
01:53 Tesco has announced its sales have increased over the past six months as food inflation
01:58 has eased.
01:59 The supermarket said it has seen a jump in profits as it was boosted by investment in
02:04 its prices to help struggling customers amid the cost of living crisis.
02:10 Ken Murphy, chief executive of Tesco, said that they will be attempting to make shopping
02:14 affordable this Christmas, but are locals scaling back this year?
02:20 And will they be eating a traditional turkey?
02:22 Yes, we always like to have around Christmas time, we have a special party just to put
02:27 the Christmas tree up.
02:29 So inevitably all the family come and I do party food.
02:34 And it's just nice to be able to get together because the family now are sort of spread
02:37 out across the country.
02:38 So yeah, that's the thing we like to do.
02:42 Not really, you know, due to our savings.
02:47 But no, I'm not aware that we're cutting back that much.
02:52 Too old to worry about it really.
02:56 Only time will tell how the people of Bristol cope over the Christmas months and if Bristol
03:01 Christmas is quieter than last year's.
