00:00 Hello and welcome back to edinburghnews.com. I'm Neil Johnston, a reporter at the Edinburgh
00:05 Evening News and these are some of the top stories you can find on our website today.
00:09 A 19 year old man has been arrested and charged following a serious assault on a pensioner in
00:15 Uphall one week ago. On the 13th of November a 75 year old man was attacked on East Main Street
00:21 at around half 12 in the morning and was rushed to hospital with a serious head injury
00:26 in what officers have described as a cowardly attack. The arrest comes after Police Scotland
00:32 appealed to the public for information last Monday. The 19 year old is due to appear at
00:36 Livingston Sheriff Court at a later date. Police say they are not looking for anyone else in
00:42 connection with the incident and would like to thank the public for their help and cooperation
00:46 in their investigation. Ryanair has announced it will be axing some flights to popular European
00:53 destinations next year. A spokesperson for Ryanair said the move comes after a review of seasonal
00:59 routes and will mean that some flights from Edinburgh Airport to destinations in Italy,
01:04 Spain and France will stop operating. A spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport said
01:09 it's of course disappointing to see some destinations depart but with more than 140
01:13 others to choose from at Edinburgh Airport passengers have a range of destinations to
01:18 get away on a special trip. And finally Edinburgh's festive season officially kicked off at the
01:24 weekend with the Christmas market at East Princess Street Gardens opening on Friday evening
01:29 followed by St Andrew's Square Winter Garden, George Street Stalls and Ice Rink and Funfair
01:34 and West Princess Street Gardens opening on Saturday. Friday's launch of the Christmas
01:39 market saw hundreds of people come along to shop at the stalls, try out the range of themed rides
01:44 including the big iconic Quio and enjoy the range of food and drink available. Today at half past
01:51 four the Christmas lights on the mound will officially be turned on by the Deputy Lord
01:55 Provost and members of the Vestland County Council in Norway. For all the latest news from Edinburgh
