Florida to be soaked ahead of East Coast storm

Heavy rain will bring the risk of flash flooding to part of Florida through the end of the week ahead of a coastal storm that will impact more than a dozen states.

00:03 last 24 hours we've got nearly

00:05 half an inch already in Tampa,

00:07 West Palm Beach and nearly 3/4

00:09 of an inch in Miami and this is

00:11 just the beginning.

00:12 You know many spots across South Florida.

00:14 Locally speaking,

00:15 multiple inches of rain in just a 24 hour span.

00:18 Here's the reason why it's an upper level.

00:21 Low this big storm system here.

00:22 You can see it cruising through the Gulf.

00:25 See that swirl right there just

00:27 South of let's say Mobile.

00:28 For example, that's where that

00:30 center of low pressure is,

00:32 but it's driving moisture all the

00:33 way back across Florida and rounds

00:35 of rain are a concern for the

00:38 Sunshine State today and tomorrow.

00:39 As well, this storm continues on

00:41 tour Florida and we just keep

00:43 seeing those rounds of rain and

00:45 flooding is a big concern with

00:47 just how much rain there is.

00:49 Now look, we're talking about a

00:51 state that generally does see a

00:53 lot of rain in a year.

00:54 Some areas more than 100 inches

00:56 of rain in a given year,

00:58 you know it's too much of a good thing,

01:00 right?

01:00 It's too much rainfall all at once,

01:02 especially let me point your

01:04 attention towards South Florida.

01:05 That's where I do think we have that

01:07 possibility really the highest possibility

01:08 of flooding even flash flooding possible.

01:10 Look around Miami where we could

01:12 see 8 to 12 inches of rainfall

01:13 through the day on Thursday.

01:15 What am I saying here?

01:16 Well, if you live in Florida,

01:18 especially South Florida,

01:19 please be careful,

01:20 especially heading out on the roads

01:21 where we could not just see some

01:23 ponding on the roadways but flooding

01:25 and flash flooding as well.

01:26 Now let's follow this storm here.

01:27 It's essentially going to take a

01:29 little boomerang action and cruise

01:30 back up the eastern seaboard,

01:32 but we get a little bit of a

01:34 saving grace if you will.

01:35 It's a good news.

01:36 Bad news situation.

01:37 Now this storm could take a little

01:39 bit of a turn and head back toward

01:41 New England, but that's not going

01:42 to happen because there's a front

01:44 moving through the Northeast on Friday.

01:45 That front is going to help

01:47 nudge our storm out to sea,

01:48 and while yes,

01:49 it is going to be wet in the Northeast

01:51 Friday from the front and then

01:53 Saturday from the combo of the

01:54 front and our coastal storm.

01:56 The brunt of the rain is really

01:58 back through New England,

01:59 especially 95 on to the east

02:01 right along the coast.

02:02 Aside from that,

02:03 it's a few spotty showers on Saturday.

02:05 Some pockets of heavy rain at times

02:07 looking from the Adirondacks onto the east,

02:09 but it's a heck of a lot better than it

02:12 could be if let's say that front weren't

02:14 there and the storm had the opportunity

02:16 to turn back to the West for example,

02:18 and really look at some heavier

02:19 rain for their inland.

02:20 All things considered,

02:21 is it a perfect weekend?

02:22 No, but is it a total washout?

02:24 No, you can see here in Buffalo

02:26 for example, well,

02:27 interior Northeast looking great

02:28 after the front passes through.

02:29 It's just chilly in the 40s,

02:31 but it's Buffalo in November.

02:32 So you know,

02:33 we're not too surprised by that,

02:34 are we Burlington Boston?

02:36 More in the way of the rainfall,

02:37 especially on Saturday,

02:38 but by Sunday it'll be breezy and cool,

02:40 but it'll clear out pretty effectively.

02:42 New York, Baltimore,

02:43 bit more of the same,

02:44 but more in the way of clouds.

02:46 That actual rainfall as we

02:47 look across your weekend.
