00:15 During the court proceeding on Friday, Judge Azura Alwi also fixed January 12 for the prosecution
00:21 to inform the court of the outcome of representations that Aslan had lodged with the Attorney General's
00:26 Chambers in September.
00:29 Deputy Public Prosecutor Noralis Mhat has informed the court that 20 witnesses will
00:34 be called to testify for the prosecution.
00:37 In April this year, Aslan, who served as Mentri Basar from 2013 to 2022, pleaded not guilty
00:44 to five charges of submitting false overseas travel claims of more than 1.18 million ringgit
00:50 between 2013 and 2017.
00:54 If found guilty, Aslan could be jailed for up to 20 years and a fine of at least five
00:59 times the value of the claims, or 10,000 ringgit, whichever is higher.
01:05 He also faces five counts of money laundering charges amounting to 1.06 million ringgit,
01:11 which he allegedly received from two tour companies between 2014 and 2017.
01:17 A guilty verdict will carry a sentence of up to 15 years' imprisonment and a fine of
01:22 at least five times the value of the proceeds, or 5 million ringgit, whichever is higher.
