00:00 (upbeat music)
00:02 - Hey, it's People in 10.
00:05 Gosh, I love my job.
00:06 It's the best week of the year.
00:09 - Hi there, my name is Patrick Dempsey,
00:11 and finally, I am this year's People Magazine
00:14 Sexiest Man Alive.
00:16 - You might remember him as McDreamy.
00:18 - Derek.
00:19 - Derek.
00:20 Right, Meredith.
00:21 - Meredith.
00:22 - Yeah.
00:23 - Nice meeting you.
00:25 - Seriously, what took so long?
00:28 - Our bad, y'all, we fixed it.
00:30 - Yeah, the worst part was knowing
00:31 they were getting it wrong.
00:32 - I've been the bridesmaid for People's Sexiest Man Alive
00:35 10 times.
00:36 Now I get the big picture,
00:37 not the little picture that's on the side.
00:39 - And now that he finally has the title,
00:41 Patrick isn't willing to give it up.
00:44 - I don't know why there should be anybody after me,
00:46 to be honest with you.
00:46 So this is it, this is the end of it.
00:48 And it's good, it's been a great run for people,
00:50 and I'm glad I could finish it all for you.
00:52 - But of course, we couldn't just stop at one sexy man
00:56 from men who really know how to spice things up
00:58 in the kitchen, now they could cook for us any night,
01:01 to the guy who's showing us how to be sexy in the city.
01:04 Simu Liu would definitely stop traffic.
01:07 But how is he handling all of his post-Shang-Chi,
01:10 post-Barbie fame?
01:11 - I think the major difference is that I've kind of
01:13 really settled into it.
01:15 I think there's a learning curve to whatever this is.
01:18 I'm gonna call it fame or Hollywood, maybe.
01:21 Maintaining a psychic connection with the person
01:25 that you were before all the fame
01:28 and all the success happened is critically important.
01:31 - A down-to-earth king?
01:33 Ooh, now that's sexy.
01:35 Demi Moore is always giving us more,
01:37 and that's why she's this week's Ageless Beauty.
01:40 She shined from every angle at the CFDA Fashion Awards,
01:43 where she presented Gwyneth Paltrow with the Innovation Award
01:46 for her work with Goop.
01:47 But y'all, it's Demi who gets all of our praise.
01:50 I mean, look at her sparkling in Carolina Herrera.
01:53 This is actually days before her 61st birthday
01:56 this weekend.
01:56 Can you say showstopper?
01:58 Wow.
01:59 Sound the alarm, we've got a revenge dress.
02:03 Diana did it first, and Lupita channeled
02:05 that same red-hot energy as she stepped out
02:08 for the LACMA Art and Film Gala
02:10 two weeks after announcing her breakup.
02:12 It's sheer and all the right spots.
02:14 She's dripping in diamonds,
02:16 and the confidence she has in it,
02:18 our girl is clearly thriving.
02:20 Well, on the heels of BravoCon,
02:23 literally, we're looking back at maybe
02:25 the most iconic moment, when Brynn Whitfield
02:28 definitely did not stick her landing on an escalator.
02:31 Those pearl white Louboutins, ugh.
02:35 The Real Housewives of New York City star
02:36 was on the way to a panel when the oopsie-daisy occurred.
02:39 And while the escalator momentarily malfunctioned,
02:41 no housewives were hurt.
02:43 This week's dream team has us catching our breath.
02:48 Amy Robach and TJ Holmes ran the New York City Marathon,
02:51 keeping the pace side by side.
02:54 And we were there as they showed each other
02:56 some TLC at the finish line.
02:58 Now say what you will about these two
03:00 and all the drama we've seen from them over the last year,
03:03 but this is an accomplishment, and they did it together
03:07 one week after they became Instagram official
03:09 and announced their new podcast.
03:11 Okay, so Jennifer Hudson got thrown
03:14 into the deep end this week,
03:15 as she called up Olympian Brian Lockdeep
03:17 for a swim lesson and a little life lesson, too.
03:20 - I don't think it's ever too late when you can learn.
03:23 - No, it's never too late.
03:24 And my love and passion for the water,
03:26 it's like my happy place.
03:28 - See, I want my happy place in the water.
03:30 I'm taking this real serious, y'all see what I'm working with?
03:33 - Then it was time to jump in.
03:34 They practiced the proper strokes
03:36 and how to breathe the right way.
03:37 By the end, she was swimming the length of the pool
03:40 and feeling pretty good about it.
03:42 - I'm going to the Olympics!
03:44 Woo!
03:46 - Moving on to our burning question of the week.
03:48 Where's Princess Kate?
03:50 And why didn't she join Prince William
03:51 on his Singapore trip?
03:53 Now, he did address it briefly.
03:55 - Catherine is very sorry she can't be here.
03:57 - But I want more info and I know who to call.
04:00 (phone ringing)
04:02 - Hey, Miko, what's up?
04:03 - Hey, Michelle.
04:04 Okay, so William already explained
04:06 why Kate had to stay at home.
04:08 What did he say?
04:08 And is it true?
04:09 Because some people are wondering
04:11 and some people, honestly, it's me.
04:13 - I can see why you and others are wondering.
04:16 And you know, it's actually a pretty relatable reason
04:19 why Kate stayed home for parents,
04:21 which is that Prince George, who is 10 years old now,
04:24 has his first set of real school exams,
04:27 kind of like big time school exams.
04:29 And Kate is staying home to help him through that.
04:32 Mom, do you? - Wow.
04:33 Oh, that's amazing.
04:34 That's a really sweet reason.
04:36 Although I am kind of sad that we won't get to see them
04:38 this time around in Singapore, like we did in 2014.
04:41 But this trip has been really, really eventful.
04:44 - Yes, William has been leading the charge on his own
04:47 and he's been doing a good job.
04:49 You know, we usually see Kate kind of charming
04:51 her younger fans and William,
04:53 who is obviously a dad of three,
04:55 did just as well as she does.
04:57 He had a really cute moment with a baby
04:59 who decided to nosh on his finger.
05:02 And it was a kind of lighthearted kickoff to the whole thing.
05:05 He won a dragon boat race
05:07 and he also walked the green carpet
05:09 with some pretty big celebrities,
05:10 including Kate Blanchett, Hannah Waddingham,
05:13 and Sterling K. Brown.
05:14 - Oh, okay, so a different Kate was there,
05:16 but it was all star-studded.
05:17 Thank you for setting the record straight.
05:19 I'll talk to you later.
05:20 - Bye.
05:21 - Bye.
05:22 - Taylor Swift hit the town in New York City
05:24 again this week.
05:25 And y'all, the Jonas connection is growing stronger.
05:28 The Girls Night gang included Selena Gomez,
05:31 who split from Nick Jonas in 2009.
05:33 And then we've got the Joe Jonas contingent.
05:36 Gigi Hadid was there.
05:37 She dated him for a few months in 2015.
05:40 Sophie Turner is of course in the midst of a divorce
05:43 from him right now.
05:44 And Taylor herself dated Joe in 2008.
05:47 That is until he allegedly broke up with her over the phone.
05:51 Ooh, so now we have fans calling them the Avengers.
05:54 That is so funny.
05:55 And this one, girl, you might be right.
05:58 You doing okay with all this, Joe?
06:00 Now it's the sit down.
06:02 Five questions with Sam Heughan.
06:04 Hi, Sam.
06:05 Your highly anticipated book, "Clanlands,"
06:07 authored by you and your "Outlander" co-star,
06:09 Graham McTavish.
06:10 Tell us a little bit about it.
06:12 - Yes, "Clanlands" in New Zealand,
06:14 it is our companion book to "Men in Kilts."
06:17 We go on an adventure down under
06:20 to the islands of New Zealand.
06:22 And honestly, we sort of delve into the culture,
06:25 the heritage, the Scottish connection,
06:28 the food, the drink, and of course the adrenaline side,
06:31 which basically gives me an excuse to torment Graham
06:34 in any means possible.
06:36 - Now I know this is your third installment
06:38 of this book series.
06:39 And of course you're working with Graham again.
06:41 What's a story about Graham that would shock us?
06:44 - I mean, look, you try spending, you know,
06:47 24 hours, 48 hours in his company.
06:49 I mean, the man is a delight,
06:52 but in a cramped confines of a camper van,
06:56 it can be rather challenging.
06:57 But no, honestly, in all seriousness, he was a great sport.
07:00 I made him do a number of things
07:02 that he really didn't want to do.
07:04 - Like what?
07:05 - Well, you know, I mean, from, you know,
07:07 going on speed boats to off-roading vehicles,
07:10 to zip lining off a hundred meter high cliffs,
07:14 to we actually did the highest bungee swing in the world
07:18 where we fell upside down together.
07:20 And the man did cry.
07:21 He did cry, but he did it.
07:22 And I was very proud of him.
07:25 - In terms of traveling, do you have a favorite city?
07:28 - Actually my favorite city in the US would be New York.
07:30 It just, it's such a great energy there.
07:33 I really enjoyed going there and I have great many friends.
07:36 It has great food, great drink.
07:38 Yeah, what an amazing city.
07:40 - I know that you stay busy.
07:41 You have so many projects that you're working on,
07:43 including Sassanac Spirits,
07:45 which is your gin and whiskey line.
07:47 As the colder months arrive, do you have a favorite fall
07:50 or maybe a winter inspired cocktail?
07:52 - Oh, it's interesting you mentioned that.
07:55 I mean, the whiskey is probably the perfect winter
07:58 or fall beverage to have.
08:01 It's, you know, an amazing whiskey.
08:03 It's won multiple, multiple awards,
08:04 but I just made, actually on my social media,
08:06 you'll see I made a spiced apple gin fizz,
08:11 which yeah, it's really delicious.
08:13 Great for those fall evenings
08:15 where it's getting a bit colder.
08:17 Yeah, and you can actually have it warm,
08:19 I think as well, which would be quite nice.
08:20 - Speaking of the weather getting cooler,
08:22 do you have anyone special in your life
08:24 that you want to stay in and maybe share a cocktail with?
08:26 - I mean, look, I think it's always better
08:29 to share a beverage than on your own, right?
08:31 And I think, you know, friends, family,
08:34 I might even share one with Graham sometime,
08:36 but I'll wait, I'll share one with you,
08:39 seeing as you haven't tried it.
08:40 We'll share one together.
08:41 - Sam, I'm gonna hold you to that.
08:44 I know giving back and inspiring others
08:46 is so important to you.
08:47 Your My Peak Global Movement has raised over $6 million.
08:51 What do you love about being a part of this movement?
08:53 - Yes, it's an online fitness community,
08:56 and we've actually raised almost 7 million now,
08:58 but every year we choose a different charity to donate to,
09:03 and we're really lucky.
09:04 This year we're working with the Ocean Conservancy,
09:06 you know, who advocate for cleaner oceans,
09:09 but also help, you know, movements
09:11 of getting people together
09:12 and going and doing actual physical ocean cleanups.
09:15 But we're very lucky, and our whole community,
09:18 peakers as we call them, they're incredible.
09:20 You know, they're not only helping themselves
09:22 by getting fit, creating new healthy habits
09:24 and healthy lifestyles,
09:25 but also helping, you know, charities as well.
09:29 - And finally, pick one of your many upcoming projects
09:32 and plug it for the next 10 seconds, go.
09:34 - Well, I mean, I obviously have Clanlands
09:36 down under in New Zealand.
09:37 I have gin, I have whiskey, I have tequila,
09:40 I have My Peak Challenge.
09:41 That's more than 10 seconds,
09:42 if I could keep going it's like...
09:44 - Sam, thank you so much for being here.
09:46 - Thanks for having me.
09:47 Sorry it's getting dark here in Scotland.
09:49 Winter's coming.
09:50 (whooshing)
