00:00 And now OPM singer-songwriter, Jada, lets her guard down in her latest single, "AM,"
00:05 and we are all here for it as she steps into a new chapter in her journey as a multi-talented musician.
00:13 So tell us more about what we can look forward to from this OPM darling joining us live.
00:18 It's none other than Jada. Good morning, Jada.
00:21 Good morning. Thank you so much. Thank you for having me.
00:23 Well, I mean, for somebody so young, you have accomplished so much.
00:28 Thank you so much. I appreciate it.
00:29 I mean, where does that—was this something that you've always wanted to do?
00:33 I mean, considering you have, you know, both your parents, you know, Jess and Ding Dong,
00:38 you know, such established musicians.
00:40 Right. Well, I would have to say that it was really innate for me at such an early age.
00:46 I was never forced into it, but I grew up in a tour environment.
00:51 My parents would take me with them on the road.
00:53 So I feel like it just came really naturally to me.
00:56 I was just exposed to music at such an early age and it's always been my passion ever since I can remember.
01:02 Okay. So you had that voice. I mean, it was given to you.
01:06 Definitely, definitely in your DNA, right?
01:09 Okay. So how did you find your sound in terms of, you know, where you wanted to go with it?
01:14 Honestly, I think it took me a while in the sense like, it's no secret.
01:19 I've always been a pop artist in nature and I'm a big fan of pop music.
01:24 But I guess it's over. It's been the course over the past two years that I've really realized where I want to go sonically wise.
01:31 And I would have to reference probably my influences like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, like growing up.
01:37 Like I've always like admired them as storytellers.
01:39 And I know that's my core as an artist. And I am a storyteller.
01:42 You are a storyteller. I mean, you have you've written for other artists.
01:47 You've written all of your songs together with your dad.
01:50 In some Tagalog songs, right? I mean, but it is amazing.
01:54 So now you have your latest single, which is out, AM.
01:58 So tell me about AM. Heartbreaking. Yes. Steamy sexy.
02:04 I'm sure you've seen the music video based on your comments.
02:08 Right. Well, AM is actually so basically it's about me reflecting on a relationship that I had and a heartbreak that I had experienced
02:16 that made me just realize, you know, how that went down and me wanting to go back to the better and the brighter days,
02:25 the morning of the AM. Because like, you know, morning is a fresh start, like a new day.
02:29 It is. Like a new day. And yeah, so that's basically what I wanted to reference with with AM.
02:35 But AM can mean a lot of things. So did you always have AM or did you write it specifically something new?
02:41 I mean, did you always have it in your baul or something?
02:43 Yeah, that's a good question. So I wrote it when I was in the thick of the experience.
02:49 And I really wrote it based off of that, based off of that experience.
02:53 So that was I would say it's fairly recent. But yeah, so honestly, I feel like it came to me more spontaneously.
03:01 And, you know, as I was going through the rest of my releases or songs that I had in my baul with my label,
03:09 I guess it just really stuck out. And when we would do like focus group, like listening sessions,
03:13 like it really resonated with people. And that's probably one of the reasons why like I chose that.
03:18 And I think it's just such a it's probably one of my most personal songs that I've put out to date.
03:23 So from from this personal song of yours, do you have a favorite line or, you know, one of those?
03:29 How do you say it? It was like the core of this whole song and how it came to be,
03:33 because like you saw these two lines or this, you know, right, a chorus or something that you said,
03:38 OK, I'm going to make a song around this. Would you say what you have a favorite part of the song?
03:44 Definitely. Honestly, I would have to say in terms of favorite line,
03:48 I really love that first line, which is I watched as we turned to nothing but a memory.
03:54 I think that's really what set it off, because like from then the song really just wrote itself.
03:59 Yeah, but I love the chorus. How it ends is then you show me that you're no different from the ones that come and go.
04:06 And now you don't even want to call me a girl. You used to know. Yeah.
04:09 So it can mean that literally like you don't want to call me.
04:13 You don't want to talk to me anymore. But it can also mean like this person doesn't even want to simply acknowledge me or know me.
04:20 So I feel like that's so powerful because it showcases how the relationship changed and how that relationship changed me as a person.
04:27 So that's why I like I feel like it's this song really is a great window into how my personal life has looked like over
04:34 in the past couple of years and months, really, as as a young adult, as someone who just turned 20.
04:42 So before I let you go a little bit about the music video, because I know that's also very close to you.
04:47 You've won, you know, your music videos in the past, your directorial debut, your music video way back.
04:53 And now with this one again. Right. So how do you do it?
04:57 I mean, the inspiration behind it, how much or how hands on are you when it comes to this video?
05:01 Well, definitely, I would say this is probably the most hands on I've ever been with a music video from the pre-production aspect of it
05:08 and creating like the demo reel in terms of creating the guide of the shot list.
05:13 Like I was really involved with that and conceptualizing the whole music video.
05:17 We actually shot it in Los Angeles.
05:19 So that was a whole other process of obviously trying to get my thoughts down on on paper and presenting it to the team over there.
05:27 And my co-director Bianca Katbagan, shout out to her and the rest of the team over there.
05:32 They were so generous and trusting of my vision.
05:35 And I really appreciate this whole collaborative process.
05:38 And I really couldn't have done it without them.
05:40 And this music video, like I really just wanted to tell a story as I always do.
05:45 And I really wanted to show people and give them a glimpse of what that relationship looked like for me at that time in my life and really give them a window.
05:53 Yeah, well, definitely good things to come. Lots of stories to tell.
05:57 Looking forward, the year is almost over.
06:00 What can we expect from Jada in 2024?
06:03 In 2024, you can definitely, I think it would be right of me to say that you can definitely expect an album or an EP and live events and just exciting things on the horizon, collaborations.
06:19 My team and I, we've been discussing it.
06:21 My new label, Republic Records Philippines, shout out to them.
06:24 And it's just a really exciting time for me as an artist.
06:27 I'm excited to grow with them, my new family, and just to grow as an individual and experience life.
06:33 Because like, as I always say, and I feel like this is like, I guess my motto with this whole or slant with this whole song is before an artist, I'm a human being.
06:42 And this with this song, it really marks that chapter of me experiencing new things as a human being with love and life and relationship.
06:49 I mean, a lot of new things to come from you.
06:51 Thank you so much, Jada, for sharing all your secrets with us.
06:55 On you day, we hope to have you back when your album comes out next year.
06:59 Thank you for that.
