00:00 Teacher Francis admitted that it's hard to read what the students of Esteban Abada Elementary School are studying.

00:06 He said that the learning gap has widened due to the pandemic.

00:12 We need to double our efforts to teach the kids.

00:17 We have many enemies, gadgets, social media, that are stealing their attention.

00:22 The Education Department said that the Philippines should have more opportunities to improve its program for International Student Assessment or PISA.

00:34 This is the only time in 2022 that PISA students are ranked high in math, science, and reading, which is alarming in the education sector.

00:46 At the same time as International Day of Education this year, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte laid out the plans of the government to support it.

00:56 The findings are indicators of what we need to get done.

01:01 And these results have ignited an even fiercer determination within us to enhance our education system.

01:11 We must intensify our current interventions and take decisive actions to ensure that every child has access to a liberating, relevant, and inclusive education.

01:25 Some of the action points mentioned by the Vice President are reopening the schools for face-to-face classes,

01:32 implementing policies that will make the education system safe, advanced, and inclusive, reducing administrative workload, and providing adequate protection to teachers.

01:44 It is also important to expose students to what is happening inside and outside the classroom.

01:50 There is an urgent need for our learners to explore and participate fully and freely in local, national, or even global communities for them to be exposed to diverse viewpoints and experiences.

02:07 Along with these, the students' physical and mental health aspects.

02:13 Everyone should understand that we need to support our students, not just their academics, but also their mental health and nutrition.

02:24 Although there are many challenges that the education sector is facing in the Philippines,
