00:00 "The next three months is I think enough time."
00:07 There is a second chance for Jeepney operators to consolidate in a cooperative or corporation,
00:14 but it did not reach the deadline of December 31, 2023.
00:19 The government extended the deadline until the end of April.
00:24 It is also for those who changed their mind and wanted to consolidate.
00:29 It means that the Land Transportation Office will not arrest Jeep drivers
00:35 who are not part of a cooperative as long as the unit is registered.
00:39 "So far as the LTFRB is concerned, there is no arrest on matters of franchise.
00:45 If you are not registered, you will still be arrested not because of a franchise issue,
00:50 but because of failure of registration."
00:53 Unregistered units can also be registered to be consolidated in a cooperative.
01:00 The officials of the Transportation Office believe that the consolidation rate will increase to 85%
01:07 from the current 76.6% in the country.
01:11 Many are asking them if it is still possible to consolidate a franchise.
01:17 And because this is the 8th extension of consolidation, they believe that this is the last deadline.
01:25 This is also what President Marcos wanted,
01:27 and it is clear from the groups who want their own franchises to remain.
01:32 "But you know, it will be contrary to the concept of consolidation.
01:39 Here in consolidation, we will be very firm. We will require consolidation."
01:46 But some Jeepney operators who do not want to consolidate a franchise
01:50 are also opposing their position.
01:53 They say that the franchise should still be theirs to the Jeep that they have been struggling to fund for years
01:59 as a daily driver.
02:01 "If we will consolidate this, they are saying that we should surrender our franchise.
02:06 And we know that we will be able to take care of it.
02:09 Many of our colleagues here joined the cooperative again in the end."
02:13 "We are still not totally happy with what has been given.
02:16 We are free from our choice to join the cooperatives, the LTFRB."
02:25 Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista,
02:29 Kinamanibela Chairman Mar Valbuena,
02:32 and Piston President Modi Floranda were able to help
02:35 to discuss what can be done to the PUV modernization program
02:40 before it is fully implemented.
