00:36 - This engine came from Smokey Eunick,

00:39 who was the one who actually removed the engines

00:42 from the car after its race in 1963.

00:47 Where did it come from exactly?

00:50 You know, I don't know that Smokey Eunick

00:51 had control over all the engines,

00:55 but we do know that he removed these engines

00:57 from the two Mickey Thompson Stingrays

00:59 and kept those engines at his facility.

01:03 I found out that he did in fact have a mystery motor,

01:07 a Mark II.

01:07 I had the car that it went in,

01:10 and I felt that it would be really important

01:14 for the car and the engine to be reunited.

01:17 - Just a stock MSD distributor in it

01:21 that I know that I've run before,

01:23 just that I know works.

01:25 - Now for historical purposes,

01:27 we've decided that it's time to put the two pieces together

01:30 and make the car available for people to see.

01:34 And I think it's gonna be a real interesting thing

01:36 for people to actually realize where this thing came from

01:40 and what it did and see its history.

01:43 - You know, we've talked about whether or not

01:45 we're gonna do power pulls or whatever.

01:47 It's gonna be hard for me not to do a power pull

01:48 because that's what I do.

01:50 And I know about how much horsepower

01:53 this motor's supposed to make.

01:55 But as I'm going through this whole process,

01:57 I'll be able to tell whether or not it's safe to do that.

02:01 And so at that point, we'll make a determination

02:03 as to whether or not I actually wanna push the handle down

02:05 and see what it's gonna do based on your decision,

02:09 and then we'll go from there.

02:11 - Okay.

02:12 - That's the process. - That sounds great.

02:13 Let's get started.

02:15 - Okay, let's go.

02:16 (engine rumbling)

02:19 (engine whirring)

02:22 - All right, turn the water on.

02:35 (engine whirring)

02:38 And as you can see, at 5,500, the power's still going up.

02:48 (laughing)

02:50 - It's a big, long turbo, what?

02:52 - That's our peak torque right here.

02:53 So the torque is actually starting to fall down.

02:55 As you can see, the numbers are coming back down.

02:57 But because of the math that's involved in horsepower,

03:00 the power's still going up.

03:01 So right after 5,500, it's gonna start rolling back over.

03:06 After everything I've seen so far,

03:08 we should be able to take it to 6,000 without a problem.

03:11 That's, of course, that's up to you.

03:13 If you wanna go to six, we'll go to six.

03:15 Let's go to six.

03:16 (engine whirring)

03:19 446 horsepower.

03:29 And it just started to roll over at 5,700 RPM.

03:32 - Yes.

03:33 - I was guessing 425.

03:36 Obviously, Smokey did a few things

03:37 to make this one a little bit better.

03:40 - It's a little lean.

03:41 - Not for a Chevrolet.

03:45 - It does sound sweet.
