Video of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR - Live from the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show floor...
Transcript
00:00 We're here at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show in the General Motors booth.
00:13 We're in front of a familiar vehicle here, the Chevy SSR, the Super Sport Roadster.
00:19 Now at $43,000, this is a fairly limited production vehicle for a select few buyers.
00:25 But this summer, Chevy is bringing to market another heritage-inspired vehicle, but it'll
00:30 be much more mainstream, much more value-priced.
00:33 Let's take a look.
00:36 This is Chevy's new HHR, which stands for the Heritage High Roof.
00:41 As you can see, it takes some styling cues from the SSR, but also combines them with
00:46 styling cues from Chevy's original utility vehicle, the 1949 Chevrolet Suburban.
00:53 Also similar to the SSR, the HHR features deep flared fenders, which tuck in at the
00:58 rocker panels, and also a one-piece stamped metal hood, very similar to what you'd find
01:05 on a 1949 Suburban.
01:07 In back, the HHR features a twin tail lamp design that at once is half street machine
01:12 and also looks like something that could have come off a vintage Corvette.
01:16 Now to give you an idea of the scale of the new HHR, it's about 14 inches shorter than
01:22 Chevy's new Equinox SUV, but it rides on about the same wheelbase as the PT Cruiser.
01:27 It's also got about the same cargo room as the PT Cruiser.
01:31 And all of this is not surprising, as Brian Nesbitt, the designer of the PT Cruiser, had
01:37 a hand in the HHR's design.
01:40 Bye.
