00:00 Cadillac showed its refreshed 2008 STS sedan at this year's New York International Auto
00:13 Show.
00:14 With sagging sails and a design that hasn't aged all that nicely, the STS was in serious
00:18 need of a makeover.
00:19 Prominently featured on the front of the 2008 STS is a variant of the Cadillac 16 Concept's
00:24 oversized trapezoidal grille first seen in production on the 2007 Escalade.
00:29 Although the rest of the front end remains unchanged, with the head and fog lights remaining
00:32 the same, the radical change in grille styling gives the STS the much needed injection of
00:36 style that will keep it going until the next generation is ready.
00:40 Other styling touches include fender grilles, narrower side marker lamps, chrome-plated
00:46 door handles, and lower rocker moldings.
00:51 The rear end remains virtually unchanged, although Cadillac did add 3-inch aluminum
00:54 exhaust tips.
00:56 Inside, the interior features a redesigned steering wheel and a revised center stack
01:00 made of wood surrounded by metal trim to give a more modern appearance.
01:03 A heads-up display system becomes available on V6 models, as do HID headlights.
01:08 On the business end, the STS receives the new 298 horsepower, 268 pound-feet of torque
01:14 direct injection variant of GM's 3.6-liter V6.
01:17 It'll be mated to the same 6-speed automatic transmission currently found in the V8 STS
01:22 models.
01:23 The V6 STS will continue to be offered in both rear-drive and all-wheel-drive variants.
01:28 New on the 2008 STS will be an advanced Stabilitrak system that has the ability to turn the wheels
01:33 into a skid when the vehicle loses traction.
01:37 Other advanced safety features include a lane departure system that uses cameras mounted
01:40 in the rearview mirrors and gives out visual and audible warnings if it detects the car
01:45 straying from its lane without a turn signal on, and a radar-based blind spot alert system.
01:50 The 2008 STS is set to arrive in dealer showrooms in the middle of the summer.
01:54 Pricing has not been announced, but is unlikely to be significantly more than the $42,995
01:59 base price of the 2007 model.
