00:00 Our last competitor is Porsche's 911 Turbo.
00:08 480 horsepower twin turbo flat six in the rear driving all four tires.
00:12 This was the main target vehicle for Nissan's GTR which is a big star here this year.
00:16 So that's one of the reasons we wanted to bring it along.
00:18 It's also always interesting to see how Porsche manages to defy the laws of physics.
00:22 Rear engine, rear weight bias isn't ideal on paper but with large tires in the back
00:27 and good expert torque distribution between the front and rear, they always manage to
00:31 do a great job.
00:32 It should be a strong competitor at Laguna Seca.
00:34 Let's find out.
00:35 All right, Randy just got out of the Porsche 911 Turbo.
01:03 480 horsepower, again all wheel drive.
01:06 You just got out of the R8 before that, your impressions of the new Porsche?
01:10 I'll tell you what, Porsche still offers a totally unique driving experience.
01:15 This car is a car with all the stability controls off that demands full attention from the driver.
01:21 And I actually find it very enjoyable.
01:24 The car actually, in terms of the suspension, it seemed to be a little bit less well damped
01:29 than the R8.
01:31 The tail is far more active than any other car I've driven today.
01:37 With all the controls off, it still behaves kind of like classic Porsche.
01:41 If you go into the corner with a lot of entry speed and turn for the apex, that car rips
01:48 right in there and the tail's going to start coming out on you.
01:51 And the more I drove it, the more I enjoyed it.
01:54 It was very much driver intense experience and very different from the other cars I've
02:00 driven today.
02:01 But it's a car that at Laguna Seca I find myself very busy in the corners.
02:06 But at the same time it's rewarding because I like being able to get the car to drift,
02:11 to work all four wheels.
02:13 I had to be right on top of the car all the time, even in the all wheel drive version,
02:19 to keep the balance proper.
02:20 It took a lot of quick steering corrections.
02:23 You were just a little bit slower in the 911 Turbo than in the Audi R8.
02:27 Did you sense that when you were on the track?
02:29 Yeah.
02:30 I found myself over slowing the entries a little bit.
02:32 Not over slowing, but slowing down more than I did in the Audi because I knew I'd have
02:37 more of a challenge once I entered the corner.
02:40 How was the steering feel?
02:41 The precision and the feedback, etc.
02:45 Fabulous.
02:46 And pretty quick and very satisfying.
02:50 Difference was the Audi really just felt like a more modern car, to tell you the truth.
02:56 It was so peaceful at turn in, whereas the Porsche is more of an e-ticket ride in terms
03:04 of the steering corrections and the driver inputs.
