00:00 The Prime Minister basking in the warmth of the spotlight in China after years in the
00:08 deep freeze.
00:09 Thank you everyone for the very warm welcome.
00:12 Among hundreds of Australian business people seeking to seize on the momentum of improving
00:17 relations.
00:18 At an enormous trade expo in Shanghai, Mr Albanese is talking up business with our biggest
00:24 trading partner.
00:25 This is a market of 1.4 billion people.
00:29 This is an economy that is growing faster than the global average and this is an economy
00:36 that is complementary in many ways to the Australian economy.
00:41 However in recent years it's been anything but with China imposing a series of bans and
00:46 tariffs on Australian products.
00:49 Most have now been lifted but some remain on lobsters and red meat.
00:53 This is what we want.
00:58 I raised those issues directly with my counterpart.
01:01 I would expect that in a very short space of time.
01:05 That means for Australian businesses that they can move into those markets again but
01:09 we note that they've also diversified over the course of the last few years.
01:14 Premier Lee Chiang spoke of China's opening up and appetite for global cooperation.
01:19 But in his speech after, Mr Albanese warned of the need to eliminate barriers to trade
01:23 and investment.
01:25 Australia and China have prospered thanks to the certainty and stability that is made
01:31 possible by rules based trade.
01:34 Anthony Albanese drove home politely the benefits of free trade for China, Australia and the
01:40 entire region.
01:41 He also highlighted the importance of regional stability in a not so subtle reference to
01:46 China's ambitions in the South China Sea and hopes to seize Taiwan.
01:51 But the biggest moment arrives tomorrow when the Prime Minister meets Chinese President
01:55 Xi Jinping in Beijing.
