Should private parking companies be better regulated?

00:34 Yeah well I think there needs to be some sort of regulation with these private

00:39 contractors who are working on behalf of someone else there doesn't seem to be

00:43 any way of getting hold of them you know it's literally it's on your windscreen.

00:48 Yeah and they are also the people you go to if you have a concern about having

00:54 been given a ticket or something they are their own judge and jury you know

00:58 they say that you've broken a rule which is probably a very fine small writing

01:04 and you'd have to park up in their car park anyway before you could read it and

01:07 then you say actually I don't think this is fair because and then they say well

01:13 actually we disagree because we get 60 quid or whatever it is.

01:16 They charge more if you don't pay it.

01:18 And if you don't pay it they double the amount.

01:20 So yeah we ended up paying for the parking and then paying a fine because we parked not by the fence.

01:25 I'd like to see parking the city all done by the council and I think that would raise money.

01:32 I think that in many ways transport is something that's a real issue for the city.

01:39 I walk tend to walk in because the buses aren't always frequent or even on time or often cancelled.

01:45 But if I come in with four people I'll come in the car but I'd much rather pay City Council parking.

01:53 It's my city rather than privately and certainly the ones with their tactics.

01:57 You know I know people who just say we just don't pay the bill and they'll never come back to you.

02:01 But I've had friends who have been really distressed and disturbed by getting tickets

02:06 and they're not always well signposted.

02:08 Whereas City Council wants to know exactly what you're doing.

02:11 So that's where I would go.
