00:00 Behind me sits the Land Rover Defender 130, a three-row Defender.
00:05 The third and final iteration of this new Defender from Land Rover.
00:10 So let's take a little look at the design.
00:11 I want to dive deep on what makes this Defender unique.
00:15 Beginning then at the front, well nothing has changed here.
00:18 It's still a Defender, it's still boxy but also oddly soft and smooth.
00:23 I like the way the Defender looks though I know it's not for everyone.
00:26 Moving down the side though, this is where the 130 gets really interesting.
00:30 And of course the thing that smacks you in the face right away is the extra length.
00:35 Look at the overhang on the Defender 130.
00:38 Good luck off-roading with that amount of room out over the back wheels.
00:45 But then look at this, this is something else which I find very interesting and kind of perplexing honestly.
00:49 Do you remember this body panel here which on the 90 and the 110 sat behind the C-pillar?
00:56 And offered a space for a utility box, for the mounting points, for a ladder up to the roof rack?
01:04 Well on the 130 because of the shift in proportions they've had to split it between the door and the C-pillar.
01:10 So it serves no practical purpose and presumably is there because without it the 130 just looks weird.
01:17 And it's the same story of chunky utilitarian design albeit with some refinements on the inside.
01:23 Everything remains practically unchanged from previous model years with the Defenders 110 and 90.
01:30 The big change of course with the 130 comes at the back.
01:34 Because as you can see in the rear here we move past this bench of three seats.
01:38 Pull this one back and we've got another full row of three adult-sized seats.
01:45 Good headroom, good legroom. This gives the Defender 130 a very comfortable seven seat configuration.
01:53 So there you have it, our first design impressions of the Defender 130.
01:59 Now is it a practical and very smart nod to the utilitarian heritage of the Defender?
02:05 Or is it a step too far? We'll let you be the judge.
