00:00 Thousands of people, members of the Israeli community, gathered here in Martin Place at
00:06 about 10 o'clock this morning.
00:08 We heard from several speakers.
00:11 Basically their key message is that they're calling for authorities, particularly the
00:16 Australian government, to do more in terms of calling for the release of some 230 hostages
00:23 being held by the terrorist organization Hamas in Gaza.
00:28 So everyone here stood around.
00:30 There was a silent vigil at the end and then people, the thousands of people, walked down
00:36 Pitt Street and headed down to the Sydney Harbour Bridge where they all got a photo,
00:41 a photo that they're planning on sending back to relatives and friends in Israel as a show
00:47 of support for those living through this.
00:51 Over there, there were prams, prams that were symbolizing those children that have been
00:58 taken hostage.
00:59 There were hundreds of pairs of shoes to symbolize the men, women and elderly who have also been
01:06 kidnapped.
01:07 Now those speaking said that it was important to hold this rally here in Sydney's CBD to
01:14 send a message to the Jewish community that they are safe here and that there is no place
01:21 for anti-Semitism any time, and particularly in modern Australia.
01:26 They were saying that many members of the Jewish community have been feeling particularly
01:31 unsafe at this time.
01:33 They were also saying that this is a war on Hamas.
01:36 Some of our community is scared to even go out as a Jewish.
01:41 And I have an answer to those people.
01:44 Not under this generation.
01:45 This generation is a different generation.
01:46 This generation is smarter, wiser, and we are not going to be scared and we will come
01:55 here and say what we have to say.
01:57 It appears that it is a city that is divided, but there is one united message in that everyone
02:04 wants the killing of innocent civilians to come to an end.
