Many Canberrans are familiar with Running for Resilience, now there is Strolling for Resilience.
It's a family-friendly walk, run or stroll along the Kingston foreshore on Thursdays at 10.30am, helping to build community, connection and resilience.

00:32 - The group was really launched to address
00:36 a need for other parents in society
00:39 that can't make the 6.15 a.m. on a Monday or Friday
00:43 or the 6 p.m. on a Wednesday.
00:45 It is a running or walking inclusive group
00:52 that is established on Thursdays at 10 a.m.
00:56 to basically allow parents or even the elderly
01:00 to get together and to basically form friendships
01:04 and to connect with the wider community.
01:08 It's to improve mental health
01:10 and also reduce the incidence of suicide in society.
01:14 We find if you can exercise for 30 minutes and connect,
01:18 then your mental health will improve
01:21 and you'll feel better about yourself.
01:24 - I think the benefit of coming
01:26 is to meet other like-minded people.
01:30 So, mums and dads and carers who are on the same page
01:34 who have kids at home.
01:35 And it's a nice idea to get out of the house for one
01:40 and have a coffee at the end.
01:43 But also to, if you need to, it's a safe space
01:46 to be able to talk about your struggles
01:49 and what you're going through as parents,
01:51 which is easily the simplest job in the world.
01:53 - Yeah, then the dog partnered with Abra from the beginning
01:58 and it's been sort of like the home of R4R,
02:01 which, you know, we're just so thrilled
02:05 to be a part of such a wonderful community.
02:10 And yeah, I think the Strolling for Resilience,
02:14 like I love the idea of the movement
02:16 that it's a place to come, but there's no pressure.
02:20 So, you can turn up when you can and meet people.
02:24 And yeah, it's just lovely.
