Bina Brown of Third Age Matters explains how help is available to keep living in your own home.
Transcript
00:00Anybody who's over 65 should know that they're eligible for services to keep them at home.
00:06We know that people want to remain living in their own home
00:09and there are a lot of resources available to make that happen.
00:12It is an incredibly complex system, which I like to think is being slowly sorted out.
00:17There are supported home packages that are designed to keep people living in their own home.
00:23They are means tested, so those that can't afford to pay something are asked to do so,
00:29but there is a lot of government-subsidised help out there.
00:32Things that are going to be covered are things like domestic help around the house,
00:37maybe some help in the garden, personal care, transport to appointments,
00:43some social interaction, that sort of thing.
00:47The government's made it fairly clear that it's not going to cover the purchase of new white goods.
00:54You can't just order new beds.
00:57It's obviously not going to fund holidays, things like that.
