Councillor Damian Gleeson talks about his memories of living next to the newly restored railway goods shed when he was a kid.

00:00 I remember as a young kid, we grew up next to the station,

00:02 so I'm pointing that way.

00:04 And the station was always so busy.

00:07 There's people traveling to Melbourne and back every day,

00:10 but more particularly the goods share,

00:11 where we're standing now,

00:13 all of the stuff that came to Port Free

00:15 for the supermarkets in Port Free and Yambuk and Surrounds,

00:19 a lot of it came through here.

00:21 And I remember people like Eric Haylock

00:23 and Mr. Irving, old Bill Irving, had a trade truck

00:26 and they'd come and collect

00:27 and then they'd take all the things

00:28 wherever they had to go.

00:29 But it was always busy.

00:31 For those that don't know,

00:33 Regent Street was never straight.

00:35 It used to curve around straight up into Sackville Street

00:37 because it was blocked off because of the station.

00:40 The station used to cross Bank Street

00:42 and go up behind the Scout Hall

00:44 and then come back to the goods shed.

00:47 So a very, very busy place.

00:48 We had a beautiful station,

00:50 you know, brick and blue stone.

00:52 But this shed is a fantastic part of Port Ferry

00:55 and I'm so pleased it's been done up

00:57 and I can't wait for it to become a great community asset.
