00:00 I'm David Freiburger from Hot Rod Magazine and this is day 5 of Hot Rod Power Tour 2014.

00:12 We're making our way from Norwalk, Ohio all the way to Crown Point, Indiana and today

00:16 I'm going to bring you inside what it's like to deal with the photo shoots along the road

00:21 with myself and legendary photographer Wes Allison.

00:41 Wes and I have been doing this together on the Road with Power Tour for about 12 years

00:44 straight.

00:45 We kind of have a routine about how we get things done both on the highway and at the

00:49 side of the road and so we're going to show you what that's like.

00:53 There's really three different ways that we shoot cars out on the road.

00:57 One of which is we'll stop in these little small towns and we'll shoot cars in sort of

01:01 handler action and stacks up of big lineups as they're going by.

01:05 The other thing that we'll do is drive in the Chevrolet Performance Suburban that they

01:09 loan us and we'll pull cars over to the side of the road and shoot groups of them in front

01:14 of neat locations, old buildings, things like that.

01:17 We'll also do what's called car to car photography and this is the funniest thing because Wes

01:23 will hang out the window of the car and he's shooting at like a 15th of a second in order

01:27 to get the background really blurry but you need the car that you're shooting to stick

01:31 right at the exact same speed as the Suburban that I'm driving and getting people to do

01:36 that can be frustrating.

01:38 Okay, guide to Wes Allison hand signals while your car is being photographed on the road.

01:43 Of course there's the natural coming this way and going that way but then there's also

01:47 the get your elbow in the car, elbow in.

01:51 You'll see him doing that one.

01:53 Then there's also paper off the dash, paper off the dash and the classic bent window,

02:00 close, bent window, close.

02:03 People will wave and he'll just be no, no wave, no wave.

02:06 It's funny.

02:07 All of this stuff, it really irritates him.

02:08 Here's the other thing we do is find neat locations at the side of the road to shoot

02:24 car features.

02:25 A minute ago it was nice and overcast, great photo here up against this old building and

02:30 this 65 GTO, pretty amazing.

02:40 Alright that took a little bit of work but I think we got the shot.

02:43 You never know when that might be a cover of Hot Rod but at the very least it will be

02:46 a full page inside the magazine.

02:52 Carbon monoxide poisoning.

02:53 The only reason he keeps coming back.
