00:00 October has seen some strong
00:02 hurricanes in recent years.
00:03 Hurricane Delta hit the Louisiana
00:05 coast in 2020 and Michael devastated
00:07 Florida Panhandle in 2018.
00:09 Accuweather experts say October
00:11 brings more storm development
00:12 close to the US rather than in
00:15 the eastern Atlantic, putting
00:17 places like Florida at risk.
00:18 One of the main forming or breeding
00:21 grounds that you see in October
00:24 is the Northwest Caribbean.
00:25 And with that, with those dips in the
00:29 jet stream or troughs coming across
00:31 the central part of the country,
00:33 that takes all of the tropical
00:35 moisture and all of that steering
00:37 flow guides these systems in the
00:39 Florida so Florida is fair game.
00:40 Florida has seen the most major
00:42 hurricane impacts in October,
00:44 dating back to when records
00:45 have been kept in the 1800s.
00:47 11 major storms have formed and made
00:49 landfall in Florida in the month of
00:51 October. Sometimes are more vulnerable
00:53 in October than any other month,
00:55 just simply because they're so
00:57 close to the Caribbean and close
00:59 to the Western Atlantic.
01:00 Heading into this October,
01:02 our experts say water temperatures
01:03 and wind flow do have the potential
01:06 for more major storms to develop.
01:08 We are now going into a La Nina pattern.
01:11 The vertical wind shear in the
01:13 tropics tends to be less than what
01:16 we would have like in a El Nino
01:19 or a neutral type system season.
01:21 While it's getting cooler across
01:23 the United States and North America,
01:25 water temperatures are still very warm,
01:27 and that's why you can see tropical
01:30 storms and hurricanes right in the
01:32 late October early November that can
01:34 threaten the United States for
01:36 Accuweather. I'm Melissa Constanzer.
