Vulnerable homes at risk of flooding in Florida ahead of Helene

Helene is expected to make landfall over Florida as a major hurricane this week on Sept. 26. Homes vulnerable to flooding in St. Petersburg are preparing with sandbags and barriers ahead of the storm.

00:00After the first hurricane came through here last September it came into the house on the bottom

00:04level and we had to do a complete flood, tear out four feet up the drywall, claim the whole shop.

00:13I know what part of my outside stuff needs to be removed, what part of my inside stuff needs to be

00:17brought to the next level, and what doors need to be sealed off, how to seal them, and just basically

00:22overall how to prepare. You know you find out the severity at least on the charts that I look at,

00:27you find out about maybe three days, four days in advance, so it doesn't give you a lot of time

00:32especially if the hurricane's coming in two days prior, it's raining, no one's going to want to

00:35move their stuff in the rain, so you take a chance. I tell you I absolutely love this area,

00:39I love the community, I love the schools, I'm raising a family here and the only thing that

00:44I don't like are these floods and after having three of them, maybe two major ones after this

00:48one in the year, I'm definitely contemplating it. I haven't made any kind of decisions yet but

00:55so far it's not enough to drive me away but if I have to do this two,

00:58three times a year, it's just with normal life, it's just a lot, it's a lot to take in.
