00:00 There is seemingly pressure building on the Qantas chair, Richard Goida.
00:05 This is quite an interesting development from the pilots union.
00:08 They haven't intervened in this way before, but they're really suggesting they have completely
00:13 lost faith in Richard Goida.
00:14 Now this comes a few weeks after the High Court found that Qantas had illegally sacked
00:20 1700 of its ground crew during the pandemic.
00:24 The union saying the time really has come for Richard Goida to move on.
00:28 And if Qantas is going to change its culture as a company, it can't do so with Richard
00:34 Goida in that position as chair of the board of directors.
00:37 It does have confidence in the new CEO, Vanessa Hudson.
00:41 It's in fact penned this letter to Miss Hudson and says she has been fairly well received
00:46 among Qantas staff.
00:47 It's gripe really is with the board's chair.
00:50 Now Richard Goida has been on the board of Qantas since 2017.
00:53 He's been chair since 2018.
00:55 He is quite a seasoned director.
00:58 He also chairs Woodside Energy and the AFL Commission too.
01:02 But here's the AIPA's Tony Lucas explaining their call this morning.
01:08 15 years of industrial adversarial and aggressive staff relations.
01:15 And I think for us, the final straw is the fact that it's still a Qantas policy for the
01:21 staff to take a two year wage freeze during a time of raging inflation and really good
01:27 company profits.
01:29 And in the meantime, the board, according to their own annual report, is increasing
01:34 their remuneration considerably.
01:36 So that's what's led the culmination in us now suggesting that the chairman should stand
01:41 aside.
01:44 There's been plenty of political discussion within this building about the situation facing
01:48 Qantas over the past few months.
01:51 Criticism from both sides of politics, particularly around that High Court decision there and
01:56 the action taken against those 1700 workers.
