Climate Change Risks Render Homes in U.S. 'Essentially Uninsurable,' Analysis Finds

Homes in parts of the U.S., especially in California and Florida, are becoming "essentially uninsurable" due to rising risks from climate change events like wildfires and floods. A new analysis from First Street Foundation found that around 35.6 million properties nationwide face higher insurance prices and reduced coverage availability due to climate change risks. Homeowners in high-risk areas are seeing their insurance rates rise drastically, by 60-80% or more, making insurance unaffordable. Some insurers are withdrawing from these areas completely.
