00:00 These goddamn f*cking new YouTube f*cking rules really f*cking suck, don't they?
00:04 F*ck!
00:05 It appears that YouTube is changing the rules for what kind of content that users can monetize.
00:10 And like any major change to any social media platform, the community is not really that
00:15 happy about it.
00:16 Phil DeFranco, who's been making his news commentary show for almost 10 years now, had
00:21 a few things to say on the subject.
00:23 I don't think that I can call you beautiful bastards anymore because apparently that and
00:27 several other things I do are not "advertiser friendly".
00:31 I had heard murmurings, I had heard a few YouTubers talking about it, but we personally
00:34 got hit with it yesterday.
00:36 He explained that YouTube is now flagging certain videos for not being "advertiser
00:40 friendly" and they're not ad-friendly because they might contain strong language or be about
00:44 a sensitive topic.
00:46 Which is basically like his entire shtick and the shtick of a whole bunch of other content
00:50 creators.
00:51 He called it "YouTube is shutting down my channel and I'm not sure what to do".
00:55 I don't know about shutting it down, but I mean they're definitely making some changes.
00:59 Phil makes it clear that he's not really worried about money because his show makes
01:02 a majority of its revenue in other ways.
01:05 He's more concerned about feeling censored or that YouTube is trying to push away a certain
01:09 kind of creator.
01:10 A representative from YouTube actually contacted Phil and gave him a statement that he said
01:14 he'll be sharing in the near future.
01:17 But in the meantime, this is affecting a ton of other big YouTubers as well.
01:21 Jack Dean posted a video on Twitter where he called YouTube and I quote "a bunch of
01:26 f***ing c***s".
01:27 Megan Tonjes titled her video "Does YouTube Condone Rape?".
01:31 She's frustrated that the website seems to be trying to curb discussion of certain controversial
01:35 topics.
01:36 Viewers and fans have also gotten the hashtag trending "YouTube is over party".
01:41 As a creator myself, here's what I find the most troubling is that the guideline itself
01:45 says that videos must be advertiser friendly, but there's no objective criteria for that.
01:50 And I know that YouTube is a company that needs to make money and all of that good stuff,
01:54 but what is the point in making money if it kills the thing that your site is supposed
01:59 to be about to begin with?
