00:01In 2018, David Jeremiah released his book and series,
00:05Overcomer, Eight Ways to Live a Life of Unstoppable Strength,
00:09Unmovable Faith, and Unbelievable Power.
00:13The book became a New York Times bestseller,
00:16and the biblically-based teaching inspired thousands
00:18to claim the power God has given believers.
00:22David Jeremiah took this motivating message
00:24on a nationwide tour, visiting four cities
00:27where thousands of people heard new messages
00:29about the overcomers of the Bible,
00:31heroes of the past who overcame the greatest of obstacles
00:34with the power of God,
00:36the same power God is ready to give all believers today,
00:40power to be more than conquerors,
00:42more than winners, and more than victors,
00:45power to be overcomers.

01:38So we've all searched for the light of the day
01:45in the dead of the night.
01:49We've all found ourselves worn out
01:51from the same old fight.
01:54Oh, we've all run the things we know
01:58that just ain't right.
02:00Well, there's a better life, yeah,
02:03A better life, oh.
02:07If you've got pain, he's a pain-taker.
02:13And if you feel lost, and he's a way-maker.
02:19Well, you need freedom, save it.
02:23He's a prison-shaking savior.
02:25If you've got chains, oh, he's a chain-breaker.
02:31If you need freedom, save it.
02:36He's a prison-shaking savior.
02:38If you've got chains, oh, he's a chain-breaker.
02:43Oh, yeah.
02:46Oh, yeah.
02:51Amen.

04:47And now, here is Dr. Jeremiah
04:48with his message,
04:50Noah, Overcoming a Corrupt World.
04:54The most dramatic moment in antiquity
04:57when God judged an entire world
04:59occurred as it's recorded in Genesis chapter 6 through 9
05:04in the account of Noah's flood.
05:08This is one of the most famous stories in the Bible.
05:11So, we have to ask ourselves this question,
05:14how did the story of the destruction of the world
05:17and the drowning of the human race
05:19become so iconic and popular?
05:23How did a story of justice and annihilation
05:26become such a favorite bedtime story theme
05:30and Sunday school lesson in many of our churches?
05:34Well, the answer, of course,
05:35is that the ark is a symbol of hope.
05:39And the story of Noah is a story of a man
05:42who walked with God and he was an overcomer.
05:45He overcame the corruption of the world
05:48in which he lived.
05:49He was a loner, but he was an overcomer.
05:52And I want to tell you that story tonight briefly
05:55and draw the applications to our own lives today.
05:58If you want to know what it's going to be like
06:00before the Lord Jesus comes back to take us home,
06:03if you want to get ready for that moment
06:05when the sky is open and the trumpet sounds,
06:09here's what the Bible says about that,
06:11and we can go all the way back to Genesis 6
06:13to find the answers.
06:15The first thing that we notice
06:17is that the world in which Noah lived
06:19was a world that grieved God.
06:22The first thing we see is in Genesis 6-5
06:25where we read that the Lord saw
06:27the wickedness of man was great on the earth.
06:32You don't have to make too many assumptions
06:33to connect that to where we are.
06:36The Bible tells us four things
06:37about the people of Noah's day.
06:39They have applications to our day as well.
06:42First of all, their cravings were unrestrained.
06:47Genesis 6-5 says that the Lord saw
06:51that the wickedness of man was great in the earth
06:54and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart
06:58was only evil continually.
07:03Is there a worse verse in the Bible than that one?
07:08Listen to it again.
07:09Every intent of the thoughts of the heart
07:18was only evil continually.
07:24What a statement.
07:26Every thought, every intent, every imagination,
07:30only evil continuously.
07:33Our world today is becoming more and more filled
07:36with this level of lurid evil
07:38for living in an age in which cravings are unrestrained.
07:43I've been a preacher now for almost 50 years.
07:45It's overwhelming to me how our culture has changed
07:49in five decades since I started preaching.
07:52Every day, you as a believer have to fight
07:55for the purity of your mind and the purity of your soul.
07:58You can't just be casual about it.
08:00You have to be proactive about it
08:02or you will be caught up
08:04in the unrestrained cravings of our world.
08:09The second thing we noticed about the time of Noah
08:11was that their corruption was uncontrolled.
08:13It says in verses 11 and 12,
08:16the earth was also corrupt before God.
08:19So God looked upon the earth
08:20and indeed it was corrupt
08:22for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
08:25This speaks of the breakdown of ethics
08:29and morality at every level.
08:33We may like to shut it off and we should.
08:35I told some people the other night,
08:37I've been kind of on a fast for television.
08:40Just go on a fast and don't even turn any of it on
08:42because even if it's a good channel,
08:44the good channels are going to tell you
08:45about all the bad things
08:46that the bad channels have already reported
08:48and you can't escape it.
08:50Your just mind gets overwhelmed
08:52with the evil and corruption of our day.
08:54Imagine the world right now
08:58as God looks at it from heaven.
09:03Their cravings were unrestrained,
09:05their corruption was uncontrolled
09:06and their cruelty was unrelenting.
09:09God sees all the cravings and corruption in the world
09:12and he sees its unrelenting cruelty.
09:14The earth was corrupt before God
09:16and the earth was filled with violence.
09:21In verse 13, the Lord said,
09:22the end of all flesh has come before me
09:25for the earth is filled with violence through them.
09:30It makes perfect sense
09:31that when your cravings are unrestrained
09:34and your corruption is uncontrolled,
09:36your cruelty will be unrelenting.
09:39We are living in a very harsh, coarse, violent world,
09:44very similar to the world into which Noah was born.
09:49And then their carelessness was undeniable.
09:53This is one that kind of escapes most people
09:55because we have misinterpreted a verse
09:57that leaves us with the wrong impression.
10:01There was another element to human society
10:03in the days of Noah that shows up
10:04in the teachings of Jesus
10:05and that was carelessness.
10:08Now, I know you've read this verse from Matthew 24
10:10where we read,
10:12in the days before the flood
10:13they were eating and drinking
10:16and marrying and giving in marriage
10:18until the day that Noah entered the ark
10:20and did not know until the flood came
10:22and took them all away.
10:24They went about their lives
10:26without any spiritual point of reference.
10:28All these things I've described were happening
10:30and what did the people of Noah's day do?
10:33Just kept doing what they always did.
10:35They ate, they drank, they got married
10:36as if nothing was wrong.
10:39They were careless and cavalier
10:41and they went about the issues of life
10:43without regard for the message of God.
10:46And men and women,
10:47that's a generation that grieves God
10:49and that's pretty much the generation
10:51in which you and I are living today.
10:54The whole idea of right and wrong
10:56as a part of the moral fabric of our nation
10:59is no longer a history fact.
11:01Now, there is no right
11:03except whatever right you want to make it.
11:04There's no truth unless it's your truth.
11:07Everybody does that which is right in their own eyes
11:09and they not only do it,
11:11they brag about doing it.
11:13Just as in Noah's day,
11:15there was this cavalier attitude
11:18as we see it today.
11:20Isn't it interesting
11:21that so many evil things go on in our world
11:24and nobody seems to care?
11:27There's obviously nothing wrong
11:28with eating and drinking,
11:30nothing wrong with marrying and giving in marriage.
11:33But that verse was to remind us
11:35how easy it is for us
11:37to become comfortable
11:38with what's wrong in our world.
11:41I want to tell you about the walk that pleases God.
11:45In the midst of this defilement
11:46and carelessness and cavalier attitude,
11:49there was a man who walked with God.
11:51His name was Noah.
11:53He and his family,
11:54and we're introduced to him in Genesis 6-8
11:56with these words,
11:58Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
12:02He was an overcomer.
12:05He's one of the heroes of the Scripture.
12:07He lived in the worst days,
12:09days so bad that God couldn't take it any longer,
12:12and he destroyed the world as it was with the flood.
12:15In the midst of that culture stood this man
12:18overcoming every day
12:19in a world that didn't have anything good
12:22to say about him or to him.
12:24Noah stood for the grace of God,
12:26and he stood tall.
12:28First of all, Noah was saved by faith in God's grace.
12:32First, the Bible says in Genesis 6-9,
12:36this is the genealogy of Noah.
12:38Noah was a just man, perfect in his generation.
12:43Now, that doesn't mean he was sinless.
12:45He wasn't a sinless man.
12:46There has never been a sinless man
12:48to walk upon this earth except the Lord Jesus.
12:51But it does mean that he was a man
12:54who stood above others in terms of his ethics
12:57and his character and his quality of life
13:00and his godliness.
13:01Let me put two verses together for you
13:03as if they were welded together in the Bible.
13:06One is Genesis 6-8,
13:08and the other is Hebrews 11-7.
13:10But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord,
13:13and by faith Noah became heir of the righteousness
13:17which is according to faith.
13:19Everybody who becomes a Christian,
13:21whether they're Old Testament or New Testament,
13:22comes to God by grace and through faith to walk with him.
13:27So often we become Christians,
13:28and if we're not careful, we don't change our walk,
13:32and we don't even change our talk.
13:34We're Christians only because we've accepted Christ.
13:37We're on our way to heaven,
13:38but we're not walking with God.
13:40We're walking with the world.
13:41We're doing the comfortable things.
13:43Perhaps Noah was inspired by his great-grandfather Enoch,
13:47because this is what it says about Enoch.
13:50And Enoch walked with God, and he was not,
13:54for God took him.
13:55I love that verse.
13:57Listen to it.
13:58Enoch walked with God, and he was not.
14:01He just disappeared, for God took him.
14:05One of the early illustrations of the rapture is Enoch.
14:08There's no record of his death.
14:10He walked so close to God that one day God said,
14:13Enoch, come on up here, and he was gone.
14:15And he disappeared from life.
14:17He walked with God, and he was not.
14:19Even in this corrupt world, Enoch and Noah tell us,
14:24we can be overcomers.
14:25We don't have to be corrupted by what's around us.
14:28We can walk with God.
14:33Noah was saved by faith in God's grace,
14:36and he was sustained by faith in God's Word.
14:40God made a promise to him.
14:41God instructed him, and even though it might not have made
14:44any logical sense, the Bible said Noah obeyed God by faith.
14:49He did what God told him to do, even though he couldn't figure out
14:52what it was all about.
14:54God had given Noah his Word, and by faith,
14:56Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen,
15:01moved with godly fear.
15:03He trusted God's Word and believed in God's unseen realities.
15:07Today, after all these centuries, it's just as simple as that.
15:13Walk with God, and you won't be corrupted by the world.
15:17The third thing we notice about this is this was a world that grieves God.
15:21It was a walk that pleased God, and it was a work that honored God.
15:26Here's the amazing thing about this story.
15:29Noah didn't just sit around waiting for the flood.
15:31He threw himself into a work that honored God.
15:35The Lord gave him two jobs to do, and he did both of them together.
15:39He did them faithfully, listen to me, for 120 years.
15:45He pounded nails.
15:46That was the first thing.
15:49He pounded the nails and built the ark.
15:51I don't know if they had nails back then.
15:53If they didn't have nails, they had something that held it all together.
15:57God said, Noah, make yourself an ark of gopher wood
16:00with rooms in the ark and covered inside and outside with pitch,
16:04and this is how you shall make it.
16:06The length of the ark shall be 300 cubits,
16:08and the width 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits.
16:12You shall make a window for the ark.
16:13You shall finish it to a cubit from above
16:15and set the door of the ark in its side.
16:18You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.
16:22Now, put yourself in Noah's place.
16:24There's never been any rain.
16:27Nobody knows what it is.
16:28There's never been a flood.
16:31Nobody's ever seen an ark.
16:33And if you're going to build a boat, for Pete's sake,
16:35get it near the water.
16:36But he was building this boat right out in the desert.
16:40And it wasn't just a boat.
16:41It was humongous, higher than this building
16:45in which we are meeting tonight.
16:49And every day, though he didn't understand it
16:51and couldn't comprehend the implications of it,
16:53God said it, he believed it, and that settled it.
16:57And he did it.
16:59How many of us can come to this place in our lives
17:01when we hear God say something to us?
17:03Somebody once told me,
17:05if what God is telling you makes total sense,
17:07it's probably not God you're listening to.
17:10Most of the time when God tells me something,
17:13it isn't logical that I go,
17:15oh, yes, God, that makes perfect sense.
17:18He's telling me to do something
17:19I would never think to do.
17:21And he said to Noah,
17:23build this ark and stay after it.
17:26And it took him 120 years to build this ark.
17:32He was totally obedient.
17:34There wasn't one detail that he omitted.
17:36He did everything God told him to do.
17:38And it goes without saying that people
17:40who walk with God work for God.
17:43And then, secondly, he preached the gospel.
17:46Noah was not just pounding nails.
17:48He was preaching the gospel.
17:50We know that because Peter wrote,
17:52God did not spare the ancient world,
17:54but saved Noah, one of eight people,
17:57a preacher of righteousness.
18:01I don't know how this looked,
18:02but I have a feeling it was a ministry
18:04that grew with time.
18:05When Noah began,
18:07an occasional passerby might ask,
18:10what are you doing, brother Noah?
18:12And I suppose Noah would pause his work
18:14long enough to say something like,
18:16well, the God who made this world
18:18is grieved at the evil that has gripped it,
18:20and the day of judgment's coming.
18:21You must turn to him and find favor in his eyes
18:23by turning to him while there's still time.
18:25One day the heavens are gonna rain down judgment,
18:28and it will be too late.
18:30See you tomorrow, Noah.
18:35There's a crazy man out there building a boat.
18:38There's no water.
18:39He's talking about rain.
18:40What is that?
18:41Nobody's ever heard of it.
18:42And even though we come every day to discourage him
18:45and tear him down, he keeps building it,
18:48and if you stop and talk to him,
18:50he's gonna start preaching to you.
18:52As the ark began to grow larger,
18:57I suppose it attracted more attention.
18:59Maybe Noah started having greater crowds.
19:02I can see Noah standing in front of it,
19:05pointing to the door and telling people
19:07to consider their eternal destiny.
19:09Perhaps his sons kept pounding nails
19:11while Noah paused to preach.
19:14And when you consider it,
19:15the door of that ark is a perfect representation
19:18of the gospel.
19:19So, if you want to be saved out of a corrupt generation,
19:23you have to get into the ark of salvation,
19:25and the only way you can get into that ark
19:27is through one door.
19:28Ladies and gentlemen,
19:29there are not many ways to God.
19:31The ark didn't have many doors
19:33for a lot of different opinions
19:35about what should happen to get you in the ark.
19:38The ark had one door, one door only.
19:40If you missed that door,
19:42you would perish in the flood.
19:45Today, the Bible teaches us
19:47that there is no salvation in any other
19:49and Jesus said that I am the way,
19:53the truth, and the life,
19:54and no man comes to the Father except through me.
19:58And there isn't any other way.
20:00There isn't any other door.
20:02You may not like that.
20:03You may not agree with it,
20:04but it doesn't make any difference.
20:07Somebody say, well, I don't believe that.
20:08You know, that doesn't make any difference at all.
20:10It's God's truth.
20:12God's truth, and it's proven in his word.
20:15So, if you want to come to Christ tonight,
20:17you have to come by his rules.
20:20You don't get to make your own rules.
20:22You don't get to say, I don't like that.
20:23I'm going to do my own thing.
20:25You're going to drown.
20:27You're going to drown in the judgment of God
20:29if you don't follow God's instruction.
20:32So, that brings us to the wrath that proceeds from God.
20:38When it comes to the matter of global judgment,
20:41the Bible comes full circle.
20:43At the beginning of Scripture in the book of Genesis,
20:45we're told how God destroyed the world by a flood.
20:49At the end of the Bible,
20:50we learn how God will judge the world by fire.
20:54Notice it says in Genesis chapter 7,
20:57And you know that Noah went into the ark
21:10with his sons, his wife.
21:13A total of eight people were saved in the ark.
21:17The rain began to fall,
21:18and you can imagine the knocks on the door
21:21by all the inhabitants of Noah's community
21:23who had heard him preaching for all these years,
21:26telling them what was going to happen,
21:28and they had laughed at him and scoffed at him
21:30like some of you laugh at preachers like me
21:33when we tell you that God will judge this earth
21:36if you don't repent, you can't go to heaven.
21:39And one day, it was too late,
21:41and the door was shut,
21:43and the rain came, and the floods came up,
21:46and all those who had refused to repent were lost.
21:50The Bible says that one day,
21:56though God will never again destroy this world by a flood,
22:00he's going to destroy it by a fire.
22:04If you trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior,
22:08you won't be here then.
22:09You will have gone to heaven to be with the Lord.
22:11You will have gone into the ark and be saved.
22:15Noah teaches us that we can live in this world
22:21surrounded by corruption and be full of grace.
22:26And Noah teaches us that there is coming a time
22:28of judgment upon the earth,
22:30just as surely as the judgment of the flood,
22:34there will be a judgment of the fire.
22:36You can read about it in Peter's epistles.
22:38And the world will be burned up,
22:40and everything in it and on it.
22:42And only those who have entered the ark of salvation
22:45and have gone to heaven,
22:48only those will be saved.
22:51So let me ask you this question tonight.
22:53Where are you in all of this?
22:56God brought you here for a reason.
22:58I don't know any of you.
22:59I don't know what's in your life or what's going on.
23:02Some of you are Christians,
23:04but you are not walking with God.
23:07I want to talk to you for just a moment.
23:09If you want to know the joy
23:10that God intends for you to have,
23:12you need to start walking with him.
23:14You need to walk with him every day.
23:15When you start walking with God,
23:17he'll give you something to do.
23:18And when he gives you something to do,
23:20you're going to find such joy.
23:21The greatest joy I have as a believer
23:24is serving Jesus Christ.
23:26Why do I do these events?
23:28I love coming here to preach.
23:30God has put that in my heart.
23:31This is what God has called me to do.
23:33This is what I do,
23:34and I love to do it.
23:35And when you start to walk with God,
23:40you may have been a Christian for many years.
23:42You've been sort of a spectator.
23:44Maybe you've been a secret service Christian.
23:47I know a lot of people like that.
23:48Nobody knows who you are.
23:50Maybe tonight's the night
23:52when you start to walk with God
23:54and begin to live for him.
23:56And if you start to walk with him
23:58and you simply say,
23:59Lord, I want to walk with you in my life.
24:01Show me what you want me to do.
24:03I promise you he will do that.
24:06Maybe you're here tonight
24:07and you're just an interested person
24:10who came to this event.
24:11You don't know much about the Bible.
24:13You don't know much about God and Christ.
24:15But right now, you understand
24:17that there's a way for you to go to heaven,
24:20and that's through putting your faith in Jesus Christ.
24:22I'm going to ask you to make your decision
24:24to come into the ark and be saved,
24:27to come to Christ and ask for forgiveness
24:30and become a Christian.
24:32The Bible says you will go to heaven
24:34and there you will live with the Lord forever.
24:37It's your choice.
24:38Just as the people of Noah's day had a choice,
24:41and no one made the right choice
24:44but eight people in his family.
24:46And I'm going to ask you,
24:48I'm going to plead with you.
24:49I want to spend eternity with you.
24:51I want to be in heaven with you.
24:53I don't want you to leave here
24:54without absolute certainty
24:56that you're on your way to heaven when you die.
