00:08 Taking a wheeled dig at opposition parties over their comments following
00:12 Rashid Bhavan sending out invitations for a G20 dinner
00:16 on September 9 on behalf of President of Bharat.
00:20 External Affairs Minister S.J. Shankar said that India, that is Bharat, is
00:24 mentioned in the constitution. In an exclusive interview with
00:28 News Agency ANI, the EAM said that the connotation of the
00:32 word Bharat is also reflected in the constitution.
00:36 India, that is Bharat, it is there in the constitution. Please, I would
00:40 invite everybody to read it, J. Shankar said. The minister was
00:44 asked about the opposition party's reaction and if the government is going to
00:48 reposition India as Bharat, coinciding with the G20 summit.
00:52 Responding to this, J. Shankar said, "Look, when you say Bharat, in a sense,
00:56 a meaning and understanding and a connotation that comes with it.
01:00 And that is reflected in our constitution as well."
01:04 "No, look, I think when you say Bharat, in a sense,
01:08 a meaning and a understanding
01:12 and a connotation that comes with it and that is reflected
01:16 in our constitution as well." Opposition parties have alleged that the government
01:20 was resorting to drama just because they got together and called the bloc
01:24 India. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh made a series of posts on the
01:28 issue. So, the news is indeed true. Rajasthapati Bhavan has sent out
01:32 an invite for a G20 dinner on September 9th in the name of President of
01:36 Bharat instead of the usual President of India. Now,
01:40 Article 1 in the constitution can read, "Bharat, that was India,
01:44 shall be a union of states." But now even this union of states is under
01:48 assault. He said in a post on X, "The Congress leader accused the Modi
01:52 government of trying to distort history and said that Bharat is the objective
01:56 of India parties. It is Bharat. Bring harmony, amity,
02:00 reconciliation and trust. Jodega Bharat, Jeetega
02:04 India," Jairam Ramesh said. Meanwhile, the BJP leaders
02:08 have hailed the use of Bharat on the G20 special invites. They have
02:12 alleged that the opposition is creating an issue out of nothing and that they
02:16 have objection to every subject related to the honour and pride of the country.
02:20 Jai Shankar also spoke about the government's efforts to hold G20
02:24 events in different parts of the country and said it is essential that today's
02:28 India develops sharper global awareness. Different cities, different states,
02:32 different professions and generations, a sense of participation and ownership
02:36 and this is not restricted to the G20. It is a larger
02:40 mindset. It could be in terms of today how you elect or select your political
02:44 leaders. It could be about how economic benefits and social benefits are given.
02:48 It's absolutely essential that today's India must develop sharper global
02:52 awareness. Global awareness because we do see when the Prime Minister speaks
02:56 about Amrit Kaal that we have this 25 years where enormous possibilities
03:00 are there before us. But those possibilities are realisable only when
03:04 you understand the world," Jai Shankar said. For the at worst, the
03:08 G20 dinner invite has triggered speculations about a legislation being tabled in the
03:12 upcoming special session of Parliament to rename India as Bharat. Several
03:16 opposition parties including Congress, Srinamul Congress, Aam Aadmi Party,
03:20 Dravid Munetra Kazgam who are members of the India Alliance have opposed the move.
