Senator Bernie Sanders delivered a fiery speech at the “No Kings” protest in Minnesota, taking sharp aim at Donald Trump over the Iran war. Addressing massive crowds, Sanders warned against authoritarianism and called for an immediate end to the conflict. The rally, part of nationwide protests, drew tens of thousands, with growing anger over war policies and democratic concerns. Minnesota emerged as a key stage for anti-war voices.

00:09There are a lot of people here.
00:17Thank you, Minnesota, and let me thank, in the visible,
00:25all of the organizations that have made this great event possible.
00:36And thanks to the millions of Americans from our smallest towns
00:42to our largest cities in every state in our country
00:48who are gathering today at thousands of rallies.
00:58It is absolutely appropriate that we hold a major No Kings rally
01:06right here in the St. Paul, Minneapolis area.
01:14When historians write about this dangerous moment in American history,
01:22when they write about courage and sacrifice,
01:27the people of Minnesota will deserve a special chapter for themselves.
01:39In the face of unprecedented occupation of this city by ICE,
01:48Trump's domestic army, this community stood up
01:53and with extraordinary solidarity, fought back and won.
02:04Minnesota showed the American people, and in fact the world,
02:10what democracy is about, what grassroots activism is about,
02:17and what standing up for the American ideals of freedom and justice is about.
02:28And I want to thank my colleagues, Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith,
02:34for their leadership in the Senate on this issue.
02:40And today, we remember and honor two brave Americans,
02:47Renee Good and Alex Preddy, who lost their lives in the struggle.
02:55And we promise their families and their friends
03:00that these two heroes will not have died in vain.
03:11Their sacrifice has inspired and will continue to inspire the American people
03:21in the never-ending struggle for justice.
03:29As all of you know, we are living in an unprecedented and dangerous moment in American history.
03:40In many ways, the future of our country, and in fact the entire world, is hanging in the balance.
03:51And the actions that we take now will determine what the future looks like.
04:00The choices that we face are clear.
04:05In the wealthiest country in the history of the world,
04:09at a time of massive breakthroughs in technology,
04:14we now have the opportunity to create a nation
04:19a nation in which all people can enjoy a dignified standard of living,
04:27where we wipe out bigotry and hatred,
04:34and where all of us can live in peace and participate in a vibrant democracy.
04:48Where the foundation of our nation is built on love, compassion, human solidarity, and an understanding.
05:02As your great former senator, the late Paul Wellstone said,
05:12we all do better when we all do better.
05:23And that is one vision for the future.
05:29A vision that, in my view, the vast majority of the American people share.
05:36But there is another vision out there as well.
05:43A darker vision.
05:45It is a vision which says that we must give up on democracy.
05:52That we are too stupid and inept to govern ourselves.
05:59And that we must put more and more power into the hands of one man.
06:09It is a vision that says we should accept an economy in which a handful of oligarchs have unbelievable wealth,
06:22while the vast majority of our people struggle to put food on the table.
06:30It is a vision that says that the only thing that matters in life is the accumulation of money and
06:42power.
06:46And that it is okay if we lie, cheat, and steal to achieve those goals.
06:58It is a vision which says that we must hate each other because of where we were born.
07:08Hate each other because of a different language that someone speaks.
07:16Hate each other because of the differences in the color of our skin.
07:22Or our religion or our sexual orientation.
07:27It is a vision that foments hatred and hatred and hatred, division, division, and division.
07:41It is an Orwellian vision which says that we must live in a constant state of fear.
07:51That we must always have an enemy and that we must always be at war.
08:01It is a vision which says that we have unlimited amounts of money for bombs and guns and killing,
08:12but never enough money to feed our children, provide affordable housing, or enable our parents to retire with dignity.
08:28Today, here in Minnesota, in Vermont, and in every state in the country,
08:35we say loudly and proudly that as Americans we will never forsake our heritage.
08:44We will never accept authoritarianism.
08:51We will never accept oligarchy.
08:56And we will never accept a president who is a pathological liar,
09:04a kleptocrat,
09:08and a narcissist who is undermining the Constitution of the United States and the rule of law every day.
09:23We will never accept government policy that gives massive tax breaks to billionaires,
09:32throws 15 million Americans off the health care they have,
09:40breaks unions,
09:44denies women the right to control their own bodies,
09:49and is pushing the planet closer and closer to a climate crisis.
10:00In the last year, I must confess, I have been thinking a lot about American history,
10:08about the men and women in 1776 who, with unbelievable courage,
10:17announced to the world that they would no longer be ruled by the King of England
10:26the United States.
10:28These patriots demanded freedom,
10:33and they fought a bloody revolutionary war
10:37against the most powerful military in the world to achieve that freedom.
10:44And they won.
10:50And after their military victory,
10:55they established the first democratic form of government in modern history.
11:03In 1789, they said loudly and boldly to the entire world,
11:12here in this new nation of America,
11:16we don't want kings.
11:24And let us never forget the extraordinary and powerful words they left to us.
11:32We hold these truths to be self-evident,
11:37that all men are created equal as they are endowed by their creator
11:42with certain unalienable rights,
11:45that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
11:56And today, in 2026, our message is exactly the same.
12:06No more kings!
12:13We will not allow this country to descend into authoritarianism or oligarchy.
12:23In America, we, the people, will rule.
12:33But let us be clear.
12:36This moment is not just about one man's greed,
12:43one man's corruption,
12:45or one man's contempt for our Constitution.
12:50This is about a handful of the wealthiest people on earth
12:56who, in their insatiable greed,
13:00have taken over our economy,
13:03have taken over our political system,
13:06have taken over our media,
13:09in order to enrich themselves
13:12at the expense of the working families of our country.
13:20Brothers and sisters never before in American history
13:24have so few had so much wealth and so much power.
13:31Never before in American history
13:34has there been such extreme levels
13:38of income and wealth inequality,
13:40with the top 1% now owning, if you can believe it,
13:47more wealth than the bottom 93%.
13:56Never before in American history
13:59had we seen the super rich expand their wealth so rapidly.
14:05Last year alone, after receiving the largest tax break in history,
14:13938 billionaires in America,
14:17fewer than 1,000 people,
14:20became 1.5 trillion dollars richer.
14:30And our President, honest Donald Trump,
14:34became over a billion dollars richer himself.
14:41Never before in American history
14:44have we seen a ruling class
14:47within a corrupt campaign finance system,
14:52spend so much money to buy politicians.
14:56In the coming midterm elections,
14:59the billionaires will spend many, many hundreds of millions of dollars
15:06to make sure that government continues to work for them
15:11and not working families.
15:17Meanwhile, while the richest people in America
15:21become much, much richer,
15:2460% of our people here in Minnesota, in Vermont,
15:29all over this country are living paycheck to paycheck,
15:35struggling to put food on the table,
15:38struggling to pay their rent and their mortgage,
15:42struggling to pay for childcare and education,
15:46and struggling to put a few bucks aside for a decent retirement.
15:51In America today, tens of thousands of our people
15:57die every year unnecessarily
16:01because they cannot afford to go to a doctor.
16:08And unless we change how our economy works,
16:13our younger generation, our kids,
16:16for the first time in modern history
16:19will have a lower standard of living than their parents.
16:27So today, we not only say no to Trump's authoritarianism,
16:36we say no to Mr. Musk,
16:41no to Mr. Bezos and Mr. Zuckerberg and Mr. Ellison
16:47and all the other multi-billionaires.
16:51You cannot have it all.
16:55We will create an economy that works for all Americans,
17:00not just the 1%.
17:09Brothers and sisters, it is not just the authoritarianism
17:14of the Trump administration that we must combat.
17:18It is not just the oligarchs and their insatiable greed
17:24that we must combat.
17:27Now, as the news literally of today reminds us,
17:31we have got to stop the out-of-control militarism
17:37of the Trump administration,
17:39whether it is here, at home, in cities like Minneapolis
17:44and St. Paul, or abroad.
17:53Let us be honest.
17:56The American people were lied to about the war in Vietnam.
18:03We were lied to about the war in Iraq.
18:08And we are being lied to today about the war in Iran.
18:18This war must end immediately.
18:26In the last election, Donald Trump pointed out correctly
18:31the huge amounts of money that had been wasted in wars
18:36that should have been spent rebuilding America.
18:39He campaigned as a peace candidate,
18:43and he promised no more forever wars.
18:48He lied.
18:53One month ago, Trump and his partner,
18:57Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,
19:04started a war with Iran.
19:07This war is unconstitutional.
19:11Trump did not seek or receive authorization from Congress.
19:16This war is a violation of international law.
19:22One sovereign nation cannot simply go about
19:26attacking another sovereign nation for any reason it chooses.
19:38Since this war began, 13 American soldiers have been killed
19:46and hundreds have been wounded, including another 12 yesterday.
19:53In Iran, nearly 2,000 civilians have been killed
19:59and many more wounded, and 498 schools have been bombed
20:06by American and Israeli missiles.
20:13In Lebanon, more than 1,000 people are dead,
20:18and more than 1,000,000 Lebanese people,
20:2315% of their population have been displaced from their homes.
20:31In Israel, 20 people have been killed and over 5,000 wounded.
20:38In the West Bank, Israeli vigilantes are burning down homes
20:43and killing Palestinians.
20:49At a time when gas prices are soaring,
20:53when many Americans cannot afford the basic necessities of life,
20:58it is estimated that this war has already cost a trillion dollars.
21:10At a time when the American people are politically divided,
21:15there is one issue that is bringing us together.
21:21Conservatives, moderates, and progressives are speaking out in unison.
21:29End this war!
21:39End this war!
21:42End this war!
21:44End this war!
21:45End this war!
21:47End this war!
21:49End this war!
21:51End this war!
21:52And as a U.S. Senator, I want to just mention to you about what I intend to do about
22:00it.
22:01First, we have got to make sure that Congress does not send another $200 billion to fight this war.
22:14Trump's supplemental appropriation for the war in Iran must be defeated.
22:24Secondly, I will be forcing a vote in the Senate on legislation to block the sale of nearly a billion
22:33dollars in weapons to the Israeli military for bombs and bulldozers.
22:44A nation, a government that has committed genocide in Gaza does not need more military support from American taxpayers.
23:01My fellow Americans, we are all proud to live in a country which throughout our history has inspired people throughout
23:13the world to struggle for freedom, for democracy, and justice.
23:19And we understand that when we stand together and not let demagogues divide us up, we can continue to inspire
23:31the world to believe in a brighter future.
23:42Yes, we can create a vibrant democracy by ending Citizens United and not allow billionaires to buy elections.
23:59Yes, we can create an economy that works for every man, woman, and child in our country and not just
24:08a handful of billionaires.
24:13Yes, we can make certain that the revolutionary technologies of artificial intelligence and robotics are used to improve life for
24:26all of us and not just make the rich owners of that technology even richer.
24:36Yes, we can and must join the rest of the industrialized world and guarantee health care as a human right
24:47for all of our people.
24:53Yes, instead of spending a trillion dollars a year on the military, we can wipe out homelessness and build millions
25:02of units of low income and affordable housing.
25:09Yes, in the richest country on earth, we can have the best public educational system in the world, tuition free
25:20from childcare to graduate school.
25:27Yes, we can expand Social Security and radically improve our pension system so that every senior in America,
25:36can retire with dignity.
25:42Yes, we can raise the minimum wage to a living wage and guarantee every worker the right to join a
25:50union.
25:55Yes, we can guarantee that every woman in this country has the right to control her own body.
26:08And yes, when billionaires are paying an effective tax rate lower than a truck driver or a nurse,
26:17we can and must make certain that the top 1% and large profitable corporations start paying their fair share
26:28of taxes.
26:35My fellow Americans, the establishment, including the corporate media and many of my colleagues in Congress,
26:47want you to believe that you are powerless.
26:51They want you to believe that you cannot change the status quo, that because of their wealth and their influence,
27:01there is nothing you can do to combat them.
27:06But that is a lie.
27:12Throughout the history of our country, when Americans have stood up and fought for justice, they have prevailed.
27:22The founders of our country did it when they stood up to King George.
27:28The abolitionists did it when they ended slavery.
27:33The working class did it when they stood up to their bosses and formed unions.
27:41The suffragettes did it when they demanded that women have the right to vote.
27:49The LGBT community did it when they demanded basic human rights.
27:58Time and time again, in difficult moments in American history, our people stood up, fought back, and won.
28:12They did it then, we can and will do it now.
28:23Today, March 28th, 2026, millions of Americans are out on the street demanding freedom, democracy, and justice.
28:36But we must make certain, today is not the end of our struggle, it is the beginning.
28:50Together, when we stand united, we can and will create the kind of nation that you and I know that
29:01we can become.
29:03Thank you all very much.
29:14And now, please welcome to the stage, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
