00:00 My name is Mashua Oidaka, MP for Kiambu.
00:04 We are here today to register the elderly.
00:09 The elderly will be getting monthly payments to support them.
00:18 And here we've had a very, very large number of people come here.
00:24 And the exercise has been very good, very orderly.
00:27 The president also said that before any payment is made, the elderly will be paid first.
00:32 So that's a very positive development.
00:38 Because normally, you know, there before, the elderly were paid very late.
00:45 But with this new initiative, we are very happy that we are now giving our elderly a great privilege
00:52 so that they are able to also enjoy the benefits of this monthly compensation by the government.
01:02 It's a very good program. We have sent out notices to all churches.
01:06 And we are going to have our vehicles go around the villages,
01:11 telling people that this exercise is on and to come in large numbers.
01:15 Because we've been told that there are as many as possible.
01:19 The president has put and has asked us to look after the elderly and the treasury also,
01:27 to put enough resources so that these people are able to be taken care of.
01:31 So it's a good exercise. It's one of our manifesto.
01:40 It was in our manifesto to say that the elderly will be getting monthly payments.
01:44 And you know, there before, this exercise has been a lot of delays.
01:51 But with this new initiative that we have now with our president,
01:54 who is very keen on having the elderly get their monthly income,
02:00 I think we shall be in a very good position.
02:03 Also, an exercise where we are going to be registering the elderly in HIF.
02:08 We pay for them, we pay for them, the elderly for the whole year.
02:12 Once we get them in our program, they'll be there for life.
02:17 So it's a very, very positive program that has come,
02:21 that we have developed with the government to look after our elderly.
02:25 We have a range of seven to eight million that we shall be using to register the elderly.
