00:00 (upbeat music)
00:02 - Now, the one thing that I thought that would change
00:07 is I thought potentially that sports betting
00:10 could be up and running on the Hard Rock app
00:13 for football season here in Florida.
00:16 Now, as we've talked about, I was skeptical about that,
00:18 thinking that they weren't gonna launch this thing
00:20 until they absolutely do,
00:22 they weren't gonna have to put everybody's money
00:24 back in their account and shut the app down again.
00:27 And it does appear they're more cautious about launching,
00:31 which tells me the odds of them being up
00:34 for the beginning of the football season
00:35 might tend to be dwindling.
00:38 - Right, Craig, yeah, it seemed like August 21st today
00:42 was gonna be a day we thought maybe potentially
00:44 could be the earliest day that the compact got reinstated
00:46 by the DC Circuit Court,
00:47 and they could potentially go up with sports betting today.
00:49 Now, that's obviously not gonna happen, right?
00:51 West Flagler Associates filed for a rehearing in Banque,
00:54 the DC Court of Appeal,
00:55 and then in a surprising move
00:57 that this DC Circuit Court of Appeals
00:59 does not have to do according to a legal expert,
01:01 they could just make their decision.
01:03 Now they're asking for the Seminoles
01:04 in the Department of Interior to issue a response.
01:07 They have 15 days to do that, I believe it's from the 16th,
01:09 so they have until August 31st to file a response
01:13 that could be almost 4,000 words.
01:15 So, you know, there's gonna be heavy lawyers involved
01:17 in that and you gotta make sure, you know,
01:19 all your documents are buttoned up
01:21 and all your language and wording is buttoned up
01:22 'cause we know lawyers get paid big money to do.
01:25 And so, you know, that's another step in this process
01:28 that kind of muddies the waters
01:29 in terms of when we're gonna see this.
01:30 Even if it was August 31st, it got filed on the last day,
01:33 I believe it's still a seven-day minimum
01:36 for the court to make a decision.
01:37 So yeah, I mean, maybe you could see September 7th,
01:40 the first day of NFL season, everything breaks right.
01:42 But again, that seems, you know,
01:44 highly unlikely at this point.
01:45 So still in limbo in Florida,
01:47 still plenty of procedural steps.
01:49 We don't know how far West Flagler Associates
01:51 is gonna take this thing.
01:52 They're gonna try to go to the Supreme Court
01:53 if this re-hearing in Bonk doesn't work.
01:55 That's a possibility.
01:56 State court is a possibility.
01:57 So, you know, a lot of steps in play in this thing, Craig.
02:00 We'll be following it.
02:01 We wish we had all the answers for Florida sports bettors.
02:03 Unfortunately, it is in the hands of, you know,
02:05 potentially the highest court in the land
02:06 if it does go to the Supreme Court.
02:08 And so we'll see where, you know,
02:09 when the Seminoles can launch the Hard Rock Sportsbook app.
02:11 We've seen a lot of updates on it.
02:12 We've seen the casino movement in New Jersey with the app.
02:15 But you know, I think like you said,
02:16 until they know that there's no chance
02:18 that they're gonna get shut down again,
02:20 I don't think, you know, again,
02:22 I don't know that for a fact,
02:22 but it'd just be surprising for them to launch
02:24 and then have to shut down after, you know,
02:26 the previous time where they're up for the month
02:27 and then they have to shut down again.
02:29 Biggest, you know, thing with that was Calvin Ridley,
02:32 them catching him.
02:33 You know, every day they're not up,
02:34 they have a potential for players
02:35 to be betting on offshore sites, all that, you know,
02:37 or the public to be betting on offshore sites.
02:39 State missing out on revenue.
02:40 Seminoles missing out on revenue.
02:41 So they wanna get this thing going,
02:43 I'm sure, as quickly as possible.
02:44 But they also wanna make sure they have the green light
02:46 in totality before they do.
02:48 (upbeat music)
02:51 (bells chiming)
