00:05 India's marine and coastal spaces
00:08 are rife with challenges that are
00:10 complex and largely systemic.
00:12 Over the last 14 years, Dakshin Foundation
00:15 has been working in these geographies
00:18 to create successful models of marine conservation
00:21 and sustainability through academic and action research,
00:25 as well as targeted holistic interventions.
00:28 Through our work in our field sites
00:30 and our engagements with local communities,
00:32 we've come to understand that in order
00:34 to move the needle in the conservation sector,
00:37 it is crucial to integrate community well-being
00:41 by supporting health, education, governance, and livelihoods
00:46 for people that depend on ocean resources.
00:49 Born out of this idea is our Sea Change Initiative,
00:53 which aims to leverage simultaneous environmental
00:56 and community well-being benefits across India's
01:00 coastal and marine spaces by bringing down barriers
01:03 and building capacities in multiple sectors.
01:06 The larger project also aims to facilitate benefits
01:09 to local micro-enterprising initiatives
01:12 in the Andaman Islands.
01:13 Fish for the future is one of our key focal themes
01:16 pioneered in the Lakshadweep Islands.
01:19 We are working in partnership with the local communities
01:22 and relevant departments to monitor and sustainably manage
01:26 the traditional food and diet in our fishery.
