00:00 Okay, so a lot to unpack here with our top sports betting story of the day, and it involves
00:06 my great state here of Florida.
00:09 West Flagler yesterday and their associates right at the deadline filed a petition for
00:14 a rehearing in bunk.
00:16 Now this is a little bit complicated because there's a lot involved, and at least from
00:22 what I'm reading here, Pat, and my understanding is there are people in parimutuals and all
00:29 around the state of Florida who do not want the Seminole Tribe of Indians to have sole
00:33 proprietorship of operating a sports book in Florida.
00:37 They want the opportunity to do so as well.
00:40 So they're filing motions to get this to happen.
00:42 It keeps moving up and up through the chain.
00:45 And Pat, the question is, is this going to go to the Supreme Court in order to figure
00:50 out whether or not the entire state and all these different operators get to operate sports
00:56 betting in Florida, or if it ends up just being the Seminole Tribe?
01:00 I hope I explained that correctly.
01:01 So you fixed this along the lines for me.
01:04 Hey, you did a pretty good job, Craig, as far as I know.
01:07 Again, I'm not a lawyer either, so you're also in a similar boat to me.
01:12 But go ahead and go over to Legal Sports Report and read Mike Mazzeo's story on the situation.
01:17 He does a great summary of it.
01:19 We have our legal analyst, John Holden, also who covers this great.
01:23 But yeah, you're right, on Monday was the deadline for any sort of rehearing.
01:28 I think it was just under two months ago where we were given the initial ruling that they
01:34 were overturning and that the Seminoles could relaunch Hard Rock.
01:38 And at the time, everybody was like, "Oh man, it could be imminent.
01:41 They could do it this weekend.
01:42 They could do it this weekend, this month, blah, blah, blah."
01:46 Well that didn't happen.
01:47 I think that's probably because they were assuming this request for a rehearing at the
01:51 D.C. Circuit Court was coming.
01:55 From the legal analyst that spoke with Mike, it doesn't sound like these requests are successful
02:02 very often.
02:03 So there is a chance, given how speedy this ruling comes back, that the Hard Rock sportsbook
02:12 could relaunch in Florida by the football season or at least early in the football season.
02:17 Again, that's kind of just laying out timelines and how everything works out.
02:23 But you're right, there is a chance it could be appealed and go up to the Supreme Court.
02:28 They could also take it to the state court level and see how it goes there.
02:35 There's some situations there where it's like, "All right, well if that's the case at the
02:39 state court, it could go to the ballot," which Craig, I'm sure you would vote to legalize
02:43 sports betting.
02:46 But there's a few other avenues.
02:47 But again, there's a seemingly decent chance that Hard Rock will relaunch by the football
02:54 season, sometime in the football season, maybe even by the start.
02:58 So there it is, pretty laid out there.
03:03 Some legal analysts say the argument from Wes Flagler and the group that is behind this
03:11 lawsuit is basically saying, "Hey, you're telling sports betting is okay for this tribe
03:19 and you're not giving it to us.
03:20 That's unfair."
03:21 In a lot of these tribal gaming incidents, that doesn't really hold water.
03:27 This is just an interesting saga that you are very personally tied to, and so are a
03:34 lot of people.
03:35 Florida is a very large state.
03:38 We'll see what happens, but hey, you could have sports betting live again by the football
03:43 season.
03:44 So that's one thing to, I guess, cross your fingers for.
