00:00 - This morning, there's word that Republicans in Congress
00:02 are trying to block Hunter Biden's plea deal.
00:05 The president's son is expected to plead guilty today
00:07 to misdemeanor tax charges, avoiding prison time,
00:10 in what Republicans have called a "sweetheart deal."
00:13 - They've made him a very good deal,
00:15 and he sucked it up like a Hoover deluxe,
00:18 and I can't blame you.
00:20 - But now, The New York Times reports
00:22 Congressman Jason Smith,
00:23 the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee,
00:25 has filed a brief in federal court
00:27 urging the judge in the case to reject the agreement.
00:30 Smith argues the deal is tainted
00:32 and cites testimony from two IRS whistleblowers
00:35 who were in charge of the investigation.
00:37 - My credibility comes from my job experience with the IRS.
00:41 - The agents testified to a House committee last week
00:43 that they believe Hunter Biden got special treatment
00:46 from the Justice Department.
00:47 - There should not be a two-track justice system
00:49 depending on who you are and who you're connected to.
00:52 Yet, in this case, there was.
00:54 At every stage, decisions were made
00:56 that benefited the subject of this investigation.
00:58 - The Justice Department denies the claims,
01:00 and the U.S. attorney in Delaware,
01:02 who was appointed by former President Trump,
01:04 has said he's willing to testify about the case.
01:07 Meanwhile, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy
01:09 appears closer to announcing an impeachment inquiry
01:11 into President Biden,
01:13 saying an inquiry by Congress may be the only way
01:15 Republicans can get access to information
01:18 related to how the Hunter Biden investigation was handled.
01:21 - When more of this continues to unravel,
01:25 it rises to the level of an impeachment inquiry
01:29 where you would have the Congress to have the power
01:31 to get to all these answers.
01:33 - The White House dismissing McCarthy's threat.
01:35 - I'm not gonna get into what the House Republicans
01:38 may or may not do.
01:40 - Meanwhile, the judge reviewing Hunter Biden's plea deal today
01:43 has accused a member of Biden's legal team
01:45 of misrepresenting herself at a phone call to the court.
01:48 Biden's team denies any misconduct,
01:50 calling it a misunderstanding.
