00:00 I have a little extra stuffing if you know what I mean.
00:04 Some Beanie Babies humor from the stars of The Beanie Bubble,
00:07 Zach Galifianakis and Elizabeth Banks.
00:10 And we've got the stories that define the week on People in 10.
00:14 I'm Makon Dovu, bringing you everything you need to know about pop culture right now.
00:22 10 minutes are on the clock, so let's get to it with the first five.
00:26 Starting with two shocking Hollywood breakups,
00:28 Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez have separated after two years of marriage.
00:33 A source tells People that being long distance while Ari films Wicked in London
00:41 impacted their relationship, while another source says they're now
00:45 lovingly working on their friendship.
00:46 Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello announced their split after seven years of marriage,
00:51 with an insider revealing they've been growing apart for some time.
00:54 I have been working on fixing my relationship.
00:58 But Sofia's famous friends are rallying around her as she celebrates her birthday in Italy.
01:03 And as ABC announces their new golden bachelor.
01:07 It's never too late to fall in love again.
01:09 Dylan Sprouse said "I do" to Barbara Palvin in her native Hungary.
01:13 And in Dubai, Lindsay Lohan gave birth to a baby boy,
01:16 whom she and her husband Beda Shamas named Luai.
01:19 This is like mind boggling, totally.
01:23 A rep says the couple are over the moon in love,
01:26 as Lilo's co-stars send their well wishes to the new fam of three.
01:30 Well, after weeks, no months of waiting, the big screen debut of an icon is finally here.
01:38 Hi Barbie.
01:39 Hi Ken.
01:41 Barbie's been omnipresent for me.
01:43 I think there's this thing with Barbie, it's like Barbie can be anything and she can be everything.
01:46 She can be a doctor, she can go to space.
01:48 Basically everything that men do in your world, women do in ours.
01:51 Barbie star Ryan Gosling says he had help from his kids to bring Ken to life.
01:56 There was something I had to prepare a lot for,
01:58 and so they were at home while I was doing it.
02:00 They knew it as well as I did, so they came to set the day I did it,
02:03 and they were behind the camera and they were like, almost like my coaches.
02:07 And his co-stars agree with the movie's overall message.
02:10 The beauty of what this movie is doing is like empowering personal expression.
02:17 Whether you love Barbie, whether you hate Barbie, this movie is for everyone.
02:21 We haven't played with Barbie since we were like five years old.
02:24 Meanwhile, director Greta Gerwig made sure the cast had fun on set by busting out some dance moves.
02:30 Greta would encourage the crew and everyone to sort of like join in,
02:33 and it just felt like a theme party really.
02:36 Every day was a party.
02:37 Moving on now to the crime stories you've been following closely on People.com.
02:44 Investigators are still working to figure out how and why 25-year-old Carly Nicole Russell
02:49 went missing before she reappeared on her parents' doorstep Saturday night.
02:53 I had to stand back because she was not in a good state.
02:57 Carly disappeared last Thursday after telling a 911 dispatcher
03:01 that she saw a toddler walking alone along an Alabama highway.
03:05 Police say they've since spoken to Carly and are following up on the information she provided.
03:10 She and her family had previously claimed that she was kidnapped.
03:14 But now police say that they can't confirm those claims,
03:17 and due to some internet searches she allegedly made prior to her disappearance.
03:22 Like searching for details about Amber Alerts, one-way bus tickets, and the movie "Taken."
03:27 There are now more questions than answers.
03:29 Authorities say they hope to speak with Carly again for some clarity.
03:32 This as an arrest was made in the Long Island serial killer case
03:36 more than a decade after the bodies of multiple young women
03:39 were discovered along Gilgo Beach in New York.
03:42 Police say that 59-year-old architect Rex Heuermann of Massapequa Park
03:46 is responsible for at least three of those murders.
03:50 And they're now investigating whether he may have even kept trophies from the killings.
03:54 According to prosecutors, hairs found on the victims' bodies were a vital piece of evidence.
04:00 Police allege Heuermann committed the murders while his wife and two children were out of state.
04:04 They say his family is shocked, embarrassed, and disgusted after his arrest.
04:11 Amber learning more about some trouble in paradise for supermodel Gigi Hadid.
04:16 People can confirm that Gigi was arrested and fined $1,000 as she arrived in the
04:20 Cayman Islands last week after marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in her luggage.
04:25 A local outlet reports that officials discovered ganja and utensils used for its consumption.
04:31 The quantities were reportedly small, seemingly for personal use.
04:35 Hadid pled guilty to the charge on July 12th, but no conviction was recorded against her.
04:40 She has since been released.
04:41 A rep for Gigi tells people that she was traveling with marijuana purchased legally
04:46 in New York City with a medical license. They noted it has also been legal for
04:50 medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017 and said her record remains clear.
04:56 And by the looks of it, Hadid is already putting it behind her,
04:59 writing on Instagram Tuesday, "All's well that ends well."
05:02 Next up, the posts you've been loving this week.
05:07 Magic Johnson and his wife, Cookie's Mediterranean vacation continues.
05:11 And now it's a family affair with their kids and grandkids joining them on their super yacht.
05:16 HGTV's Erin Napier is showing off her man and the results of his recent
05:22 hardcore health and fitness journey.
05:24 Mission accomplished. And Ben, you're always on our list.
05:31 John Legend is spending some quality boys time in a little pajama party
05:36 with newborn Ren Alexander and four-year-old Miles Theodore,
05:40 while his wife Chrissy Teigen tried and relatably failed
05:43 to get a pic with all four of their kids. And Idris Elba has joined the chat.
05:48 Give it up for this big guy, right? Give it up.
05:50 A Twitter user joked about the underrated embarrassing moment
05:54 when your phone's flashlight turns on by mistake,
05:57 writing, "He could never picture it happening to Idris Elba."
06:00 Well, now we know it could.
06:04 Now, let's move on to some screen time.
06:06 I'm so excited today to be joined by Zach Galifianakis and Elizabeth Banks,
06:15 who star in The Beanie Bubble, which premieres in select theaters July 21st
06:19 and streams globally July 28th on Apple TV+.
06:23 Ty would tell you he did it all, which is as crazy as believing stuffed animals are gold.
06:28 Now I'm going to ask you both five questions.
06:30 For question number one, you'll give me one answer.
06:32 And question number two, you'll give me two answers, and so on and so forth.
06:35 Are y'all ready to get started?
06:36 Yes. Okay.
06:37 I feel like even if you had no idea what a Beanie Baby was,
06:41 the concept of this story is so, so interesting.
06:43 So, can you name one reason you were drawn to this film?
06:46 I loved the character of Robbie. I thought she was so inspirational.
06:52 Just a woman who carved out this life, rags to riches story,
06:56 overcoming this guy in her life who she trusted and who betrayed her trust,
07:02 and really would have left her with nothing.
07:05 You try to find characters that are layered and interesting or not as comedic.
07:12 This was a comedic role, but I think I also had to show this other darker side to a goofy
07:18 personality. And that attracted me to be able to show maybe a muscle that I haven't been able to
07:24 show in the past.
07:26 Do you have any memories that stick out to you in the '90s during the Beanie Baby craze?
07:30 I certainly knew of it out there. It was definitely in the makeup of the culture,
07:35 but I was mostly just wearing Laura Ashley dresses back then.
07:39 Do you remember Laura Ashley?
07:41 You made me way too young. I'm old, so my references don't make any sense.
07:45 I remember my brother having them, and I certainly knew about Beanie Babies, of course.
07:52 I don't speculate with my hard-earned money. It's just not my nature.
07:57 Both of your characters rock such specific looks throughout this movie.
08:01 Are there two items from your character's look you would incorporate into your everyday wardrobe?
08:06 Shoulder pads. Come on.
08:08 They make your waist look smaller, and they feel powerful, and I feel powerful in them.
08:14 No, I can answer that right off the... I'm never going to walk around with a cane or a pink
08:19 three-piece. I mean, this is about as dolled up as I can get.
08:22 All right, Elizabeth, let's play a little game.
08:24 Marry, shag, or kill. Acting, producing, or directing.
08:28 Acting, I would marry. Producing, I would kill. And directing, I would shag.
08:35 Shag directing, huh?
08:37 I mean, you got to f*** with that.
08:38 Your characters are so complex and complicated.
08:43 Name three interesting dynamics of your character in this movie.
08:47 Navigating a man's world, navigating a big personality. Honestly, a lot of my research was
08:52 about the psychological notions of gender power dynamics. I think it's really interesting that Tai,
08:59 you know, he didn't partner with men. He was threatened by other men. He was not threatened
09:04 by women. And I think that's a sort of a power dynamic that sort of sits in our society and
09:09 allows men to take advantage of women all the time.
09:12 Well, he, like most of us, he's got some layers and complications to him. I had made up my mind
09:19 that he needed to be somewhat charming to allure people to come get behind his vision. That
09:26 alluring was probably done through his wardrobe, his quirky, weird personality. I don't know,
09:33 I wouldn't even feel comfortable in an elevator with that kind of personality.
09:36 If you had Tai on Between Two Ferns, how long do you think he'd last?
09:40 God, that's a good idea to have him on.
09:42 I actually think he probably has an interesting,
09:45 funny sense of humor. I would imagine he's probably funny.
09:50 Now, we all love the Beanie Babies, but I'm curious to know, what are four things you
09:55 collected in the 90s? I was a struggling actress living in New York in a tiny apartment.
10:00 So I mostly owned clothes. That's what I owned. And makeup and hair products, shoes.
10:06 That's what I own. Come on. That's what a woman in her 20s is collecting.
10:12 I read that the film had to make Beanie Babies from scratch. What character would you create
10:16 into a Beanie Baby if you could? It'd have to be Tai, even though
10:21 my version of Tai is much more snuggly than the real Tai. I have a little extra stuffing,
10:27 if you know what I mean. And I'm talking about my fatness. That's not a sexual...
10:32 What?
10:33 And finally, can you give us five reasons everyone should go see The Beanie Bubble?
10:41 It's a really kind of fun look at a past craze.
10:45 It's just a fun, wild ride about a time in history.
10:48 I think this is just a really interesting story.
10:50 Really, it's about the little guy overcoming.
10:53 I think it is also a canary in a coal mine for where we are now.
10:56 Have you considered poisoning him? Countless times.
11:01 Thank you both for joining me today. Now, everyone, be sure to check out The Beanie
11:05 Bubble, which premieres in select theaters on July 21st and streams globally July 28th on Apple TV+.
11:11 All right, time's up. See you back here next Thursday.
