00:00 Thick plumes of black smoke fill the skies of the city in South Darfur province in Sudan.
00:06 The fighting rages on, with no humanitarian aid in sight, as the Sudanese army pulls out
00:11 of a truce deal that would have secured the delivery of aid to an increasingly desperate
00:15 population.
00:17 The African Union has called for a resumption of the ceasefire talks brokered by the US
00:22 and Saudi Arabia.
00:23 "We should absolutely not discourage the mediators, the United States and Saudi Arabia,
00:29 who still play a very important role, whom we support very strongly in continuing the
00:33 efforts."
00:35 The warring parties had agreed to extend the week-long humanitarian truce by five days.
00:40 But on the ground, the reality tells a different story.
00:44 Like previously violated ceasefires, air raids and artillery fire continue to ring out in
00:49 the capital Khartoum, as the Sudanese army accuses the paramilitary forces of not respecting
00:55 their commitments.
00:56 "We are fighting for the Sudanese people.
01:00 You see what they have done to them.
01:02 We don't want to use lethal force, but we may be compelled to, should the enemy persist
01:08 in disregarding or failing to answer to the voice of reason."
01:12 The chief of the Rapid Support Forces, General Hamdan Daglo, has yet to issue a response.
01:18 Since April, the war in Sudan has already killed more than 1,800 people and has displaced
01:24 nearly one and a half million persons and refugees.
