Infantry soldier Tom Joiner, 17, was on leave from army training when he was brutally attacked on the driveway of his grandparent's home last Tuesday (16/6).

Two yobs dressed in tracksuits approached him outside the property on Gretton Crescent, in Walsall, West Mids., at 10.30pm and demanded the keys to his new bike.

But defiant Tom stood his ground having saved up his first few Army wage packets to spend #1,200 on the off-road Kawasaki seven weeks ago.

One of the thugs then smashed him over the head with a plank of wood while the other tried to make off with his bike.

Dramatic CCTV captures the moment the brave soldier tries to defend his property by grappling with the thieves despite being battered over the head with the 4ft plank.

He suffered a large gash to his head during the one-minute struggle before two more men turned up in a car and made off his with the 250cc bike.

Yesterday (Wed) Tom, who lives with his grandparents, told how he was not going to let the thugs get away "without a fight."

He said: "I worked hard in the Army just to afford that bike and I didn't want some scum bags taking it.
